Not one of the requests, but I felt the sudden desire to write something about Polka's onesided crush on Hiccup in relation to finding out about Astrid.
~In the Shadow of Another~
It had been silly. Completely and utterly silly. Why had she even begun to hope that someone like him would be remotely interested in someone like her? Sky blue eyes appeared distant as they stared out into the darkness. Polka felt utterly defeated. Ever since she had arrived at Black Castle, there had been one boy that seemed to stand out among the crowd. One boy others would have described as horribly scrawny and otherwise unnoticeable. Polka had watched him from afar ever since she had arrived, silently hoping for the chance to even speak to him. Hiccup had somehow managed to capture her attention far better than any other boy. It was almost shameful to admit. She was so plain. So uninteresting. He was… Hiccup. There were no two ways about it. Polka was fond of him.
But the trouble was that her feelings were never returned. Polka should have guessed that Hiccup might have had someone else in mind. She’d caught him gazing longingly out a window once or twice when he should have been studying. The sort of wistful look that she had learned was common when daydreaming of someone held in high regard. His emerald gaze never seemed to focus on her. Try as she might, Polka could never muster the courage to speak her mind to Hiccup. Every time they encountered one another had ended the same way, namely beginning with a little greeting and leading up to a quick conversation before the pair would head off on their way again.
This day, though, Polka had thought would be the one where she finally worked up the courage to speak with Hiccup for more than a few minutes. She thought it would be perfect. His punishment of a week’s grounding was up, and it was a lovely day outside. Polka had thought it would be a good chance to talk to him outside. But once again, she found her hopes shot. Her journey through the woods led her to discover something. Something she had hoped wouldn’t be true turned out to be painfully true. Hiccup had met with another girl.
This girl, this Astrid, was beautiful. There was no doubt about it. It was no wonder Hiccup’s emerald gaze was never focused on her. Polka realized that when she first saw the Viking girl. Her plain features never stood a chance. Astrid was everything a Viking should have been; she was strong, sturdy, and above all… she was the opposite of her. Outgoing, bold, and vocal made up the traits Polka could easily see. Astrid was everything Polka wasn’t. Everything Hiccup wanted.
As Polka shifted her position and turned her head toward the wall nearest her, she allowed a soft sigh to pass her lips. She should have known she was setting herself up for disaster the moment she laid eyes on him. But she’d held out hope that maybe, just maybe, Hiccup would be interested in her. Evidently, though, all Polka had succeeded at was deluding herself. Her love was unrequited. She was to forever stay in the shadow of another.

And here's Astrid's request! I hope comfort fluff is good. ^^
~No Different Than Before~
“We… weren’t able to save your leg.”
“You’ll probably never be the same again. I’m sorry…”
Kind though the green-haired angel had been, it hadn’t changed the harsh impact that had been left on Hiccup. A part of him was gone. It was never coming back. The angels had been right in saying he would never be the same again. He was… crippled. Although no one actually spoke that way about him in public, Hiccup had some idea that maybe, just maybe, the other witches and wizards viewed him differently than they had before. Rapunzel didn’t seem to think any differently of him, but the others… well, Hiccup was uncertain of what they thought. It was what had driven him to leave the castle for that day so he could think about things.
Hiccup’s head hung low as he hobbled through the forest. It wasn’t the wisest place for him to be at that moment in time, especially since Snotlout and other werewolves that were more hostile than Astrid toward him were out there, but he didn’t want to be in the castle. He needed fresh air. A change of scenery to try and get his mind off of what had changed so drastically. Hiccup didn’t even seem to notice the gloomy weather. All he could focus on was his feet. Hiccup couldn’t remember a time he had felt so miserable. The sad thing was that it was all because of what he looked like. Whether or not Hiccup actually recognized that fact was unable to be determined. It appeared as though he was off in his own little world, lost forever in a sea of thought that was buffeting him with harsh realities.
Worthless…
Freak…
It’s no wonder they stare at you. They think you’re nothing but a crippled freak. If it was anyone else-
Hiccup wasn’t able to finish his thought. He felt his breath catch in his throat and his hooked, metal foot snag on the tree root he had completely missed in his observations. Down he went, sprawling out on the ground like an accident-prone horse, and there he lay for several long moments. He didn’t bother to get up. The reality that he was nothing more than a freak seemed to be affecting him more deeply than he knew. All he knew was that he felt worthless.
Maybe if I just lay here, then everything will just stop.
Oh, if only it worked that way. Hiccup could only wish it was that simple as he lay there on the ground. He stayed as still as possible and just laid there on the ground. He only hoped that when he got up his leg would be normal again and he wouldn’t feel so downright awful. Maybe if he just stayed there…
“Hiccup?”
Emerald eyes slowly opened again and moved from the ground to where the voice was. The blonde wolf in front of him was undoubtedly familiar. The concern evident on her face normally would have moved Hiccup. In his present state of mind, though, he could only see her face. Although Hiccup was trying his best to hide it, there was no masking the tears stinging his eyes. No words came from him. All he could do was look up with those hurt, pitiful emerald eyes. Even if he was unable to convey what he was thinking, it somehow seemed to get across to Astrid. He watched as she shifted to human form and allowed her to help him into a sitting position.
“What’s wrong?” Astrid asked.
Typical Astrid. Hiccup should have known she wasn’t going to beat around the bush. It didn’t make him feel any better, though. There was a fine line between how awful he felt and how he wanted to feel. Hiccup still didn’t respond, though. It was too painful right then. …And yet he couldn’t bring himself to stay silent. “…I’m a freak, Astrid.” Hiccup managed to say. Even if Hiccup had been paying attention, he still would have missed the surprise in Astrid’s eyes. It was almost like she wasn’t expecting him to say something like that. Hiccup only saw a flicker of that look before his gaze shifted back to the accursed metal and wooden leg. It was the source of all his problems at that moment. All his misery could be derived from one source.
“No, you’re not.”
Hiccup’s gaze shot up from his leg and shifted to Astrid. To his surprise, there was genuine concern in those blue eyes of hers. …Was she being serious? Did she really not think of him any differently than she had before he’d lost his leg? Before Hiccup could ask, he felt Astrid putting one arm around him and moving just a bit closer to him. One single tear finally did break free from Hiccup’s face, but it didn’t linger long. Astrid was quick to brush it away. “You, Hiccup, are not a freak. You’re acting like an idiot, though.” Astrid stated.
“But, Astrid, I’m-“
“Hiccup, listen. You are no different than you were before this happened. Stop beating yourself up about this.” Astrid said. …She was being serious. Now Hiccup could see that clearly. It didn’t make him feel much better, but it did assure him of one thing; Astrid, at least, didn’t look at him any differently. Hiccup opened his mouth to say something, but he stopped when he felt Astrid jab him on the arm. He cringed a bit. This really was becoming more common than not. “That’s for unnecessarily putting yourself down.” Astrid said.
“Do you always have to do that? I mean, can’t you find some other way to-“
One peck on the cheek was enough to silence him again. Hiccup felt his cheeks grow warmer as Astrid pulled away. …Why did she always have to do that? “That’s for… everything else.” Astrid managed to say. “Now get out of here, Hiccup. You know it’s not safe out here. I suggest you go back before something stupid happens.” Astrid said. Typical Astrid… again. Why did she always have to be right? Before Hiccup could ask, though, she blonde girl shifted back to wolf form and bounded off into the forest.
It was a few minutes before Hiccup forced himself to his feet again and began to walk back the way he had come. She was right, of course. He should have realized sooner that he wasn’t any different. He knew he wasn’t. It was just… difficult to remember. He did feel better, though. Somehow it wasn’t so bad having something missing. Not when someone else was convinced it wasn’t as bad as he had thought. She didn’t think any differently of him. That was what mattered.

To Giselle and Lilo - I promise I will get your requests done soon!
Anyway... short story time again! This is in relation to the thread Between the lines of fear and blame (which I am loving, by the way) and what's going on with Hiccup during that thread. Since... you know, I won't be bringing him actively into the thread until he's officially been healed.
So... here we go!
~One Last Time~
A blur. Everything that had happened to him out in the woods was nothing but a big, long blur in his memory. The last things he remembered were Astrid trying to save him and passing out. Now… well, Hiccup had no idea where he was. All he knew was he felt weightless. It was almost as if he was floating. Floating in an endless abyss to who knew where. It was dark, and he couldn’t feel anything, but he knew that he wasn’t where he ought to be. If Hiccup had any hold on his senses at all in that moment, he would have known he wasn’t in the woods anymore. That much hadn’t registered, though. Instead, as he opened his eyes Hiccup could only see a vast emptiness before him. An endless spread of black void. Where was he…?
“…icc…”
What was that? A voice? Hiccup couldn’t move to look for the source. He felt as if he was stuck, laying there on his back, with nowhere to go. At first he thought he was dreaming. He had to be. Who would be trying to convey any sort of message right then? Hiccup blinked a couple of times as if he was trying to register what was being said, but nothing came to him. Was he imagining things?
“…Hiccup…”
Now there was no doubt about it. Someone was trying to speak with him. “I… I’m here…” Hiccup croaked. His voice sounded low and croaky, almost as if he hadn’t used it recently, and his throat felt raw. Now it felt like he had a little freedom to move, though. He found himself able to shift so that he was in an upright position. Still, he saw nothing. The young Viking frowned a little at that thought. Who was trying to talk to him? Where were they? Why wasn’t he in the woods anymore?
“Hiccup… my son…”
…Now things were getting strange. Hiccup blinked a couple of times and looked around again. Someone claiming they were related to him? That couldn’t be right. No one he was related to was alive anymore except for his father, and Stoick would never address him as ‘son’ again. Hiccup knew that. And yet, he found the voice sounded familiar the more he thought about it. A voice he hadn’t heard in a long time. Not since he was a little boy. Emerald eyes grew just a bit wider as the thought sank in. Things around him seemed to be growing lighter, too, as if the dawning realization had an effect on the environment. But that voice… it couldn’t have been who he thought it was. There was no way. Hiccup knew what had happened. He had seen it with his own eyes. She couldn’t be there… could she?
As the surrounding area grew lighter, a nearby figure became more readily visible to him. A Viking woman who looked to be in her prime stood… floated nearby. Her form was typical of most Viking women around Berk; rather muscular and burlier in comparison to him. Yet there was something familiar about her. Something Hiccup didn’t want to consider, but he was considering anyway. This woman… he knew her.
“M… Mom?”
Vallhalarama, Stoick the Vast’s wife and Hiccup’s mother, silently confirmed her son’s question. There was a sort of sadness in her eyes, one that Hiccup couldn’t properly fathom, but at the same time there was a bit of happiness that Hiccup more than welcomed. The younger of the two Vikings, feeling he had more freedom, moved closer to the older and wrapped his arms around her in a warm hug. “Oh, Hiccup… my son. I have missed you…” Vallhalarama said as she returned Hiccup’s embrace.
“I missed you too, mom. But… where am I? How did I get here?” Hiccup asked. Emerald eyes went up to meet the blue eyes of his mother. He could still see the lingering sadness in them, but could not fathom why it was there. They were together again! Shouldn’t she have been happy? …Unless he had lost his grip on reality so much that he had joined her. “I’m not… I mean… I can’t be…”
“Hiccup, do not fret. It is not time for you to join me.” Vallhalarama said. This seemed to relieve Hiccup somewhat, but at the same time he was hit by a pang of sadness. It wasn’t his time. That meant… he had brushed with death, hadn’t he? “I’m afraid you cannot stay with me, Hiccup. You still have much to do.” she said.
“But, mom, I… I want to stay.” Hiccup told her. This was the closest to happy he had been in recent days. Sure he had been happy when he had goofed around with Rapunzel, and he had enjoyed his time with Astrid, but this? He was with the one family member that seemed to care about him. Why would he want to be taken away? “I need you.”
“I’m sorry, Hiccup. You can’t stay. It is not yet time.”
Too soon Hiccup began to think about that fact. He could already feel himself growing heavier. Alarm filled his eyes as he felt himself slipping from Vallahalrama’s embrace. “No, wait! I-“
Vallhalarama seemed to anticipate his unwillingness, as when he began to slowly descend she brought one finger to his lips. “When it is time for you to return, I will come for you. For now, I will watch over you. Stay safe, my darling…”
Hiccup didn’t want to grapple with what she was saying. He had been so close to being happy once more that he didn’t want to give it up. But it was too late. He could already feel himself descending into the abyss below him at a faster rate. He could still see the sadness in his mother’s eyes. She… didn’t want to be separated from him any more than he did. That thought only made the parting hurt worse for Hiccup.
“Goodbye…”
“No, mom! MOM!”
Too late. Hiccup had reached his hand out to try and grasp Vallhalarama’s, but he had been too slow. His descent speed seemed to increase, and he felt as though he was being pulled into the unknown.
-------------
Wake up… wake up…
Now what was going on? Why did he feel like he had been through hell recently? …Why did it feel like he was on something soft as opposed to floating? Slowly, emerald eyes flickered open to see where he was. He was in a room. A white, cozy looking room that he had never seen before. On top of that, there was a green-haired boy sitting not too far from him who appeared to be just a year younger than him. There was relief dancing in the winged boy’s emerald eyes, and Hiccup couldn’t quite comprehend it. Where was he now?
“Thank Yulia. I was beginning to think you would be asleep forever.”
Hiccup slowly took in what was being said as he looked over his surroundings. Was this where he had been brought to after the encounter in the woods? He was admittedly disappointed that it wasn’t Astrid that had rescued him. Although Hiccup did want to say something to this green-haired boy, no words came out when he opened his mouth. If his throat had felt raw before, it felt even worse then. On the plus side, though, there didn’t seem to be any blood left on his mouth from… whatever had happened. Instead of speaking, Hiccup let one eyebrow rise quizzically. As if to ask ‘Where am I?’ to the slightly younger boy. The boy seemed to catch the unasked question, as he offered a little smile in response.
“This is the Kingdom of Light. Proteus brought you here after that battle in the woods. You… gave us quite a scare, actually. I almost thought you weren’t going to make it.”
Realization filled Hiccup’s eyes. This boy thought he wasn’t going to make it. He… really had had a brush with death. In a way, Hiccup was almost disappointed he hadn’t met death with full force. He wasn’t necessarily unhappy that he was alive, but he almost wished he had been able to stay wherever he had been with his mother. It was one last time he would get to see her. Now it was gone. Hiccup couldn’t openly complain, though. Instead he let a somewhat grateful smile work its way across his face before letting himself relax more.
One last time. It had been one last time he would never have again. But he was alive. Hiccup considered what his mother had said, and slowly began to realize that maybe she had a point. He wasn’t really ready to die. He had only wanted to be with his mother again. Thinking about it, Hiccup was very relieved to be alive.
I… still wish I had been able to stay with mom a little longer…
That would have to wait, though. There were questions he wanted answered by this angel boy in regards to what had happened to him. He would just have to wait for the ‘proper’ moment to rejoin his mother. Even if the separation hurt in the end.

Okay, after this I swear I will get to the two remaining requests. I just had to write this. It was too cute an idea not to.
~A Strange Relationship~
One brown ear twitched, seeming to be the only sign of movement beyond breathing, as Flynn tried to continue sleeping. The thief had had a rough couple of nights and the noises of the woods certainly weren’t helping his lack of sleep. These noises, though, were out of the ordinary. Flynn only came to realize that when he heard what sounded like a feral growl and a set of feet scrambling across the ground, bringing freshly fallen leaves up from where they lay. Begrudgingly, Flynn lifted his head from his paws and tilted it to the side so that he might hear better. It didn’t sound like one of his pack mates. The growl sounded young. Angry, too, he realized. Was a loner trying to take over the pack territory? Well, Flynn wouldn’t have any of that. He rose to his paws and dashed out of the cave he had chosen to sleep in, only to be met by a shocking sight when he came outside.
There was a huge black-brown wolf on the scene, snarling and barking as if he were yelling at someone, and the unknown opponent wasn’t too far off. What shocked Flynn was who this opponent was. That scrawny build and red hair were unmistakable. “Hiccup!”
Without thinking, Flynn threw himself at the hulk of a wolf and tackled him before he had a chance to lunge at Hiccup. This was a good thing, he would later realize, as he had probably just saved Hiccup from a very untimely death. Flynn let a vicious snarl of his own come from within his throat as his ears pressed back against his head and his brown eyes bore into the blue eyes of the offending wolf. “The hell do you think you’re doing in the pack territory, loner? Get out!” Flynn barked.
“Why don’t you make me? I’m trying to settle things with that wimp!” came the response from the black-brown wolf. The bulkier wolf struggled under Flynn’s grasp, which honestly surprised Flynn since he hadn’t thought he’d be able to hold him down, and barked another threat at Hiccup. Flynn whipped his head around to look at Hiccup, offering a perplexed look to the young Viking, before glaring down at the bulkier wolf. “Get off!”
“No. Not until you promise to leave that kid alone.” Flynn snarled. This obviously surprised the bulkier of the two, but Flynn didn’t care. He couldn’t let Hiccup get mauled by this wolf. Whatever had happened between them, it was obvious that this wolf wouldn’t let the young wizard go without a few scars to remember him by. Obviously, Flynn wasn’t going to let that happen. He bore his teeth and glared at the wolf beneath him, only to let his gaze soften a little when he felt the younger wolf stop struggling. Cautiously, Flynn stepped away from his opponent and stepped in front of Hiccup. He turned his attention away from the other wolf and looked to Hiccup at last. Flynn opened his mouth in preparation to ask a question, but his words died on his tongue when he felt someone come up from behind and tackle him to the ground.
Flynn barely had a chance to react. All he knew was that the bulky wolf was on top of him and trying to snap his jaws around his neck. Flynn struggled valiantly and wrestled with the younger wolf, and before long it turned into a full scuffle between them. Black and brown fur flew as they fought, and Flynn actually succeeded in biting this other wolf several times only to have the favor returned in kind. By the time things died down, Flynn stood in front of Hiccup with his fur a mess and blood dripping from his front legs. The opposition had backed off and was bleeding heavily from a bite wound on his shoulder and hind leg.
“You’re going to regret coming between me and him. I’ll make sure you never forget this. You better sleep with one eye open from now on, because Snotlout strikes when you least expect.” the black-brown wolf, evidently called Snotlout, growled. He didn’t give Flynn a chance to react to that threat. Before Flynn could even say anything in response to that, Snotlout had turned around and bounded off. This left Flynn confused, but obviously victorious. He had also succeeded in defending Hiccup. That much he was sure a few people would be thankful for. Flynn gave a snort and shifted back to human form, bringing one hand to one of his injured arms before giving a look to Hiccup. The young wizard flinched a little, but he remained silent. Obviously, it was up to Flynn to ask the questions.
“The hell was that about? And what are you doing so far from the castle? Don’t you know it’s dangerous out here?” Flynn asked. When Hiccup didn’t answer right away, he decided to throw a couple more questions the wizard’s way. Not very tactful, of course, but he didn’t care. He wanted to know what all of that had been about.
“And what was with that werewolf? Why was he attacking you?” he asked. Instead of an answer, all he got was more silence. Flynn was beginning to think that this was one of those things that Hiccup didn’t want to talk about. Well, Flynn wasn’t going to have any of that. He wanted answers and he wanted them right then.
“Well?”
“I don’t know!” Hiccup snapped. Flynn took a step back, obviously surprised by the redhead’s defensiveness, before offering an unimpressed sort of look. Surely Hiccup knew why that Snotlout had attacked him. He had to know. He was the one that had been attacked. Hiccup seemed to sense that Flynn wasn’t buying into his answer, as a soft sigh came from the redhead as he turned away from Flynn. Flynn waited. He wanted to hear what Hiccup would have to say.
“That… he’s my cousin. He hates me.”
Flynn’s eyes widened slightly at the revelation. That wolf was Hiccup’s cousin? They hated each other? Just what sort of a messed up family did Hiccup come from? He had never gotten an answer on where the young Viking came from or anything relating to his past, so Flynn was in the dark. Things seemed to have become rather awkward, though, as Flynn noticed Hiccup staring down at the ground and refusing to look up. Flynn gave a soft sigh and put one hand on Hiccup’s shoulder, successfully getting the teen’s attention.
“Walk with me. We’ll talk about this elsewhere.” Flynn said. He didn’t wait for Hiccup’s response. Instead, Flynn proceeded to walk ahead of Hiccup. Only when he heard the odd footfalls of the young Viking did he know they really were on their way.
Before long, Flynn had led Hiccup to a secluded little spot within a cave that had a hole in the top to allow moonlight in. There was also a small hole in the floor that was filled with water. Flynn motioned for Hiccup to sit down, glancing back to make sure the young Viking was still there after a moment, and proceeded to sit near the indicated body of water. He dipped his hand into the water and began to wash away the blood from his arms.
“So, why does this Snotlout hate you?” Flynn asked without looking up from his work. He could see Hiccup’s reflection in the water. That was enough to indicate the redhead was sitting nearby.
“He… thinks everything’s my fault. His being a werewolf, Astrid being a werewolf, the fact that we all had to leave Berk… everything. The way he sees it, I’m some kind of cursed. I ran into him a while ago and he decided that he wanted me dead. That’s when you came in.” Hiccup explained. Flynn nodded a little as Hiccup finished speaking. Not because he agreed with what Snotlout said, but more because he was indicating that he was listening. He didn’t speak, though. Flynn wanted to hear what else Hiccup would have to say.
“It was like that at home, too. Only… less violent.” Hiccup said.
“You never did tell me about your home. Is that why you didn’t want to talk about it?” Flynn asked. He finally looked up from the water and tried to meet Hiccup’s gaze. The problem was that Hiccup refused to look up. The redhead was still focused on the floor of the cave, leaving Flynn to frown a little. This was a side of Hiccup he hadn’t seen much of. Usually the redhead was more open, at least from what he had seen while at the castle. Why was he clamming up now?
“That’s… not the only reason.” Hiccup murmured. A single eyebrow rose, but Flynn said nothing. What was Hiccup trying to avoid talking about?
“Everyone back home thought I was a screw up. …Even my dad.”
The answer Flynn got with those statements caused his gaze to soften. Was Hiccup trying to say that he hadn’t fit in at home? It certainly was being made to sound like that if Hiccup wasn’t just trying to make things more dramatic. Based on the redhead’s downcast expression, though, Flynn could easily tell that he wasn’t just looking for attention. Flynn scooted a bit closer to Hiccup, more so he could offer support to the redhead if he needed it, but Hiccup didn’t seem to notice. If he did, he certainly hadn’t reacted to it.
“So, you’re basically the black sheep.” Flynn said. A subtle nod was his answer, and Flynn accepted it. He was beginning to realize just why Hiccup hadn’t wanted to talk about home. It was sounding like he had had a rough life outside the castle.
“I guess you could say I’ve never had much of a family. I did have mom, but… she died when I was seven. After that, I was all alone except for having some sort of companionship with a friend of the family. Then a few months ago, my dad finally had enough of me. He banished me after my fire powers were discovered.”
Ouch. Flynn couldn’t help but cringe visibly as Hiccup made this revelation. No wonder he hadn’t wanted to talk about it. He really had never had a family or a home that accepted him. Flynn felt just the slightest bit guilty about that. He had never had a family, either, but it had never bothered him that much. If anything it had shaped who he was and who he had become. Hiccup, on the other hand, had been left to fend for himself and tossed out just for being different. He supposed in a world of Vikings strange qualities like Hiccup’s wouldn’t be readily accepted.
“That still doesn’t explain what you were doing out here.” Flynn pointed out gently. He saw Hiccup shrug a little in response to that. Man, does this kid know how to be difficult or what?
“I just… wanted to get away from the castle. I just sort of wandered off. Wasn’t really paying attention to where I was, so… I ran into Snotlout.” Hiccup said. “And I know it’s dangerous out here. I just didn’t want to… bother anyone in the castle.”
“Don’t you have Rapunzel for this sort of thing?” Flynn asked. Surely his best friend would have listened to him if he was feeling down. Why else would she have been his best friend? Hiccup shook his head a little, which surprised Flynn. He couldn’t have talked to her?
“She already knows most of this. Besides, Gothel got her busy with studying again. I couldn’t bother her.” Hiccup explained. Now it seemed Flynn was getting to the bottom of things. Hiccup hadn’t had anyone else to talk to, so he’d wandered off on his own. That had led to the encounter with Snotlout. Somehow Flynn didn’t think it was all that wise of Hiccup to go off into the woods instead of waiting around for Rapunzel or someone else to talk to, but who was he to judge?
At length, Flynn scooted just a tiny bit closer to Hiccup and put his arm around the redhead’s shoulders. This action finally got Hiccup to look up, but Flynn didn’t comment on that fact. He was more interested in at least confirming that Hiccup wasn’t entirely alone on the aspect of not having a family. Someone had to.
“Listen. I know this may not mean a lot coming from me, but… I know how it feels. Not having much of a family, I mean.” Flynn said. Hiccup didn’t say anything in response, but that was okay by Flynn. He hadn’t expected him to speak. Instead, Flynn decided to keep speaking.
“It may not count for much, but I figure… maybe we ought to stick together. Like… you know. Brothers. Sort of.” Flynn said. He didn’t quite know if he had explained it clearly enough, but despite the teasing he did he had grown sort of attached to Hiccup.
“You… really mean that?” Hiccup asked. Flynn simply nodded in response. The smile that broke out on Hiccup’s face practically made Flynn’s night. It was certainly better than seeing the redhead so downtrodden. What followed next, though, surprised Flynn. He felt Hiccup wrapping his arms around him in a hug. This, of course, was one thing Flynn wouldn’t stand for. He gently shoved Hiccup away, causing the redhead to fall over onto his side.
“Hey!”
“Let’s not push our luck, okay? I don’t do that mushy stuff. It’s a thief thing.” Flynn smirked. He could tell this was going to be an interesting relationship.
“One of these days, Flynn, I’m going to make you regret picking on me.”
“OH, I am just shaking in my boots!” Flynn laughed. He couldn’t help himself. The mood turn around was just what they needed. As he laughed, though, he left himself open to Hiccup. What happened next completely caught Flynn off guard. Before he knew it, Hiccup was tackling him playfully. Flynn went along with it, though, and let Hiccup knock him to the ground so that he was on top of him.
“Who’s shaking in their boots now?” Hiccup asked.
“Oh, shut up.”
Yes. This was going to be a very interesting relationship. Flynn could only silently wonder what had come over him as he grabbed Hiccup by the waist and proceeded to noogie him. When had he crossed the line between cold thief and big brother?

...Okay, I lied. I still haven't gotten to Giselle and Facilier's requests. This... I don't even know. It just sort of came to mind.
~Purpose Fulfilled~
“Astrid, no!”
Thinking about it, Hiccup wouldn’t have been able to say how he had ended up out in the thick of battle again. He didn’t know how he wound up finding Astrid or how he had managed to stay alive for that long. All Hiccup had registered was the fact that at that moment in time, he and Astrid had been pitted against an all too familiar face. Izaya had all but cornered the pair of them, and before he knew it he and Astrid found themselves fighting. Things had been going moderately well. Hiccup had near complete control over his fire and Astrid appeared to be relying on the usual Viking brute force to beat down their opponent. It had turned rough when Izaya’s shadow manipulation became involved. The maniacal laughter hadn’t made things any better. The fight had all but turned into a dodging game in which Hiccup and Astrid had to stay on their toes to survive. That had gone well enough.
…And then a single, spear of a shadow jutted out toward Astrid. Hiccup had seen it from the corner of his eye. He had felt that if he hadn’t done something then Astrid wouldn’t make it out of the fight. Acting purely on instinct, Hiccup had rushed to the side to try and do something. He’d only heard the sound of his heartbeat as he ran, only felt her fur as he slammed into her side, and felt his feet skidding against the ground as he forced himself to stop. After that, not even his heartbeat was heard. The only thing Hiccup heard was the sickening squish combined with the sound of blood splashing the ground beneath him.
For that singular moment in time, Hiccup didn’t hear or see a thing. All he did was stare blankly ahead, almost as if he couldn’t quite come to terms with what had happened, and briefly meet the sadistic look of Izaya. Eventually the shadow was pulled free of his body, and Hiccup felt himself fall to the ground. His heartbeat barely registered in his ears, but beyond that it appeared as though he heard nothing. Nothing except…
“HICCUP!”
…Her. Astrid’s voice seemed to pierce the eerie silence that seemed to be surrounding Hiccup. The redhead didn’t seem to register much going on around him anymore. He only briefly took notice of the fact that Izaya was leaving. That didn’t even matter to the young Viking. All that mattered was him being able to see Astrid as she shifted hastily back to human form and gathered him up in her arms. Wasn’t she concerned that his blood would leak out onto her from where his chest had been stabbed? Didn’t she care that his life was ebbing away faster than it could be contained? Hiccup wasn’t going to try and kid himself. He had guessed Izaya had meant to kill one of them. Now… well, it wouldn’t be someone Hiccup had cared about.
“Hiccup, you… you idiot! Just… just hang on.” Astrid begged. Concern. Hiccup could hear actual concern in her tone. It almost seemed foreign coming from her. “You’ll… you’ll be okay…” was that… fear? Through half-lidded eyes, Hiccup could barely make out Astrid’s expression. He could see that she wasn’t appearing as brave as usual, though. The blonde teen genuinely looked afraid. Afraid that… he would leave? Hiccup couldn’t tell. She looked so lost. It was another foreign appearance to Hiccup, and yet he had almost expected it. “…Why?”
“A-As… Ast…rid…?”
“Why did you do that, you idiot?!” Astrid demanded. Why, indeed. Hiccup couldn’t really provide much of an answer. It had mainly been impulse that had guided his action. He hadn’t wanted her to die. So… why had he been so willing to give everything up for her?
A faint laugh passed Hiccup’s lips, almost as if he was hoping to somehow cheer Astrid up with that, but aside from that he seemed to want to remain silent. It almost seemed strange. His reason, that is. The only thing that had really spurred him on to go through with such an act, other than his undoubted affection for the blonde, had been the thought that, somehow, this would prove he had been useful. Emerald eyes seemed to flicker just a tiny bit with actual happiness. It was as if he was accepting that maybe everyone had been wrong about him all along and that he had proven it. It had been a fatal way, perhaps, but it had been the only way Hiccup could see. Somehow, though, the dying redhead felt it had been worth it. He’d done something useful to keep someone he cared about safe.
“I j… just wanted to… be…”
The words were coming out softer than he wanted. Hiccup was finding it difficult to hold on much longer. He had to finish his statement, though. He had to explain why he had given everything up.
“…Useful…”
Hiccup would never know just how Astrid had reacted to that final statement. He would never see the look on her face when that final word came through his lips. It was as if he had used the very last of his energy just trying to get that one thought out. Emerald eyes closed completely mere moments after the last word passed his lips. It would be the last time anyone ever saw the shining green orbs that had once been so full of life. The last time that he could make it known what he thought about himself. There was no biting remark, no sarcasm in that tone, as he had let his final thoughts be known. It was the rarest moment of sincerity from such a Viking that hid behind a sharp tongue
There, in Astrid’s arms, lay the only son of Stoick the Vast. Hiccup the Useless – no. Hiccup the Useful. The only son of Berk’s chief, usually known for his sharp tongue, looked oddly peaceful laying limp in Astrid’s arms. There was a content sort of look on his lifeless face. He’d finally fulfilled what he’d thought had been his only use.

I love you o.o *gives all sadness and happiness and pity for poor Charrie Hiccup and Astrid* Why must Hiccup and Astrid have such fatal ways to part?? And this is an amazing piece I love it and It's got me tempted to write the situation from Astrid's view. You're an amazing writer!
