"You actually died."
The words echoed in Ion's mind for a long moment. It was as if the green-haired boy had been struck by an arrow in that instant. He hovered there, frozen, with emerald eyes as wide as saucers as he took in the words. Dead. That... that meant he couldn't go back home. He would never see Anise and Arietta again. They... they had been sad for a reason. There was nothing they could have done to help him.
"N... No..."
All at once, everything seemed to fall apart. The boy who usually maintained such control over himself found it difficult to take in. Only the shaky flaps of his wings were keeping him from dropping out of the sky right then and there. They were forcing him upward, closer to Proteus, as he tried to sort everything out. He was dead. He was dead. He was...
Just as he reached Proteus' cloud, his wings seemed to give out. Just barely, Ion managed to take hold of the edge of the cloud before he could fall. Mature though he was, it was near impossible for him to hold back the tears of denial desperately trying to leak out. He squeezed his eyes shut, trying to hide those tears from Proteus, and stifled a sniffle.
"I... I can't be...!" Ion couldn't even finish his sentence. He didn't know what to think anymore. All that time he had thought it had been a dream, that he would wake up back in Daath and that everything would be okay, but he had been wrong. It was a lie he had thought up to convince himself he wasn't dead, even if he hadn't known he was dead. At least, that was what his mind was telling him in that moment.

Proteus looked at the boy before wrapping his arms around him. "I know...i know its hard to believe. I had a hard time believing it when I...died." he said slowly. It was still hard for him to say that word. It was enough to make him want to cry himself.
"I'm sorry...I shouldn't have told you." The man spoke again. "It's not going to get easier either..."
Shut up Proteus. This isn't going to help the kid

Ion didn't move. He didn't speak. He just let Proteus wrap his arms around him and let his head rest against his friend's shoulder. He had no choice in the matter as tears finally flowed. All he could do was let it happen as he listened to Proteus speak. Usually, Ion wouldn't have cried. He had never really cried that often, not even when Anise and Arietta had fought. This... this was just something he was having a hard time taking in. The fact that he was dead was almost too much for him. What did that mean for Anise and Arietta? What were they doing at that moment? Did they miss him?
"I'm sorry... I shouldn't have told you."
"N-No... d-don't be..." Ion managed to speak at last. It wasn't Proteus' fault. Ion had asked. He had wanted to know. It was his fault he had questioned what he had thought was real. "Don't... don't blame yourself, P-Proteus. I... I sh-shouldn't have asked." Ion said. A hiccup followed as he tried to slow the flow of tears, bringing one sleeved hand to his eyes as he tried to wipe them away, but it was difficult to tell if they had really stopped. The greenie adviser was shaken to be sure. He didn't know what to think anymore. One thing he did know, though, was that he didn't blame Proteus. It wasn't his fault.

"It's important to know, even if you didn't know you probably would have found out eventually." he said. "I didn't have anyone to tell me, but i kind of figured it out." he remembered trying to talk to his father, his people. When he got no response...it was his gravestone that gave it away. "The best thing is...you don't have to suffer this alone. I am sure that besides us two there will be someone else to come along right?"
Brown eyes scaled the sky, it was just getting dark. Stars were now starting to shine. He gave a tiny smile, the night time always looked different from a new view. The stars were so close yet, he knew he could never reach them.
"I don't think people will treat you any differently. I have yet to meet anyone new though..."

But I'll never see Anise or Arietta again...
As much as Ion wanted to mention this to Proteus, how much he wanted to see his best friends again, he kept silent apart from the sniffling. Proteus did have a point, though. They weren't alone. Ion would have had much more difficulty getting used to the idea if he was alone. Discovering it for himself seemed like a horrible thing to have happen. What if he had stumbled upon his own grave instead of finding Proteus? What would have happened to him? Would he have fallen into despair? Ion didn't know. He didn't want to know. All he wanted was... well, what he had... he supposed. A place to call home and a good friend. That much he had thanks to Proteus.
At length, Ion moved his head away from Proteus' shoulder and he looked skyward. The stars really were pretty from where they were. He gave a little nod as Proteus finished speaking. He didn't think anyone would treat him any differently. He just hoped... that they wouldn't be the only two forever. At length, Ion let a small sigh escape him as he wiped away more tears. They were starting to slow as far as he could tell. "...I'm glad that I'm not alone. I don't know what I would have done if I hadn't found you, Proteus." Ion said. The man wasn't as close a friend as Anise or Arietta, nor was he anyone special in a romantic sort of way to Ion, but he did value him as a friend. He had told the truth to Ion when others probably would have lied. He respected that.

Proteus smiled. "It was pretty lonely without another angel around. I mean i know its not a good thing to wish that someone was dead but well, i don't feel so alone anymore." he replied. "I don't know what 's going to happen but when it does, I am going to do my best to protect those important to me."
Even if they don't know I'm there. The man knew he wasn't the best fighter out there, but he was still going to keep his dignity, he was still a prince in his own mind

"I'll... I'll do my best, too." Ion said. This seemed to bring a new wave of tears to him, but he didn't care. He had to do what he could for the people he cared about. That probably only meant offering what advise he could on situations, seeing as he probably couldn't fight all that well, but Ion decided that that was all right. He had always been weak physically. There was nothing he could have done about that. However, Ion was smart. He could offer his opinion on situations that seemed otherwise impossible to deal with.
"I m-may not be strong, but..." Ion paused, sniffling for a moment before finding his words again. "...But I can advise. That... that's my job, anyway. Whatever's coming, you're going to need help. I can help with that." he said softly.

"I am glad to hear that." he said to Ion, standing up the older figure spread his wings out again. "It's good to have someone to watch out for me. I haven't had that in awhile. It's kind of like having a little brother. Never had one of them either." he gave Ion a bright smile.
Proteus hadn't been one to have many friends but a few servants around and Sinbad but they hadn't seen each other in years. It was odd to talk to someone about his life when he had died let alone bring it up but he turned to the younger boy. "It's alright to cry you know, when i found out, i screamed and cried for about 2 days."

It was a shame that the only part of the conversation Duke had caught an ear of was that when Proteus found out about something, he screamed and cried about it for two days. The blonde angel had decided to make his way to the balcony at that time. Huh. Odd. They had wings too. Maybe he was just going crazy, still at the hospital, put on too many sedatives to dream up something like this. His blue eyes wandered over to Proteus and Ion.
It had concerned Duke that one of them had forest green hair, but he didn't mention a word about it. "Wait. What was that bad to scream and cry about it for two days?" he asked, a fairly perplexed expression on his face. He had been through getting cuffed, getting injuries, betrayed by family, and thrown into a pit that should have killed him. What could've been so bad to scream and cry about? Realizing he had no clue who these people were, he decided to make sure they at least knew who he was.
"Oh. Right. Name's Duke." For some reason, nobody seemed to notice that he was labeled as criminal. Or they didn't care. Whatever. The point was, nobody seemed to notice anything like that. He didn't see any harm in telling these two his name, so he decided to take that chance.

Proteus turned to the newcomer. "Well, yes...finding out that I was no longer alive was very disturbing and not at all comforting. I wanted to go and hug my dad and my family but i couldn't." he shook his head. "I couldn't bear with seeing their sad faces...it hurt like a pain in my heart." he said with a small smile.
"But no more sad stories." he said. "It's a pleasure to meet you Duke, I'm Proteus."

Anastasia stood outside of the balcony. She listened in on their conversation makking sure she was unnoticed. Her wings hung awkwardly on her back. Now in a totally new world, Anya felt out of place once again. She took a deep breath and walked onto the balcony.
"Hello." Anya said. She could tell from their wings that she was in the right place.
"Im Anastasia." She said tucking her auburn hair behind her ear. "But Id prefer Anya."

Proteus face lit up at the idea of another member of the angels. A girl, he hadn't seen many girl angels around. "Welcome to the Kingdom of Light, Anya. I'm Proteus, this here is Ion and this is...Duke was it?" the brunette said looking at the man. "Are you good with your wings?"

Duke had finally figured it out from what Proteus said. It wasn't science. It wasn't a hosptial. It wasn't a doctor. It was his death that gave him wings. Opening his mouth with a look of concern on his face, he shut it once another angel made her way over to the trio. His blue eyes flickered over to her. She was... pretty. Duke had to admit, she looked pretty. Maybe it was because she was an angel. That would be a poor joke to use to flirt with her, saying if it hurt when she fell from heaven. Duke didn't plan on using it, but he was sure he knew at least one guy from his living life that would say that.
Anastasia. Wasn't that the name of someone he knew? Someone who Duke didn't trust? He cast the thought aside quickly. "Yeah, I'm Duke, Anya." he spoke up, deciding that there couldn't be any harm in telling her his name. Besides, they were all dead. What could they do to each other? Kill each other again? Ha. That was a laugh.

Anya smiled feeling welcomed. Her trip was tiresome and long. Using her wings? She hadnt even thought about it. Large and white wings like hers could definately hold Anya, and possinly another person.
"Well to be honest I hadnt given it much thought." Anya said. She played with the pearls that hung from her neck. Her wings fluttered a bit as she straightened her posture.
"I made my way here on foot." Anya said releasing her pearls from her fingers.

"By foot, well you have impressed me." Proteus said landing onto the balcony beside her. "You are more than welcome to stay here. All angels are allowed to stay here in the Kingdom of Light, in fact even normal humans who have lost their way are welcome in this home as long as they don't do harm." He gave her a warm smile before closing his wings. "As long as both you and Duke are here, Ion and I can show you to your rooms."
