Name: Hades
Age: Immortal
Movie/Show: Hercules
Picture:
Other: (has anything changed in their appearance since getting hit by the magic? example: wings, fangs)
A pair of skeleton wing shadows that he can reveal/hide at will.
Personality: Hades is the smooth talking salesman of souls. He’ll help people get anything their pretty little hearts’ desire—for a price. The Ruler of the Underworld enjoys using others to do his bidding, but knows that in the end that minions can only go so far and it will take some personal effort to reach his goals. He’s got a temper that can only be compared to a volcano: it builds up over time, erupts in small bursts, and just when he seems a little too quiet, BOOM! It’s Pompeii all over again. But don’t worry, it cools down almost as quickly as it erupts .
He loves making deals to further his gains, and enjoys wrecking havoc when feeling particularly vengeful or wronged.
History: For the most part of his long life, Hades was the Greek God of the Underworld.
Hades plotted to overthrow Zeus and claim Mount Olympus as his own. The Fates prophesied that “in eighteen years, the planets will align and that would be the time to unleash the Titans, Zeus will fall and Hades would prevail.”
But they offered him a word of warning: “If Hercules were to fight, Hades would fail.”Hades, determined to avoid a catastrophe, ordered his minions to kill Hercules. The minions failed their task and lied to the ruler of the Underworld.
Eighteen years later, Hades found out about their failure. He threw nearly everything he had in Hercules’ path to try and destroy the hero, but it had been in vain. Hades sent Meg, a young girl he had control over, to find out Hercules’ weaknesses. She fell in love with the hero, and Hades used that to his advantage: He made a deal with Hercules in which the hero must give up his powers for an entire day in exchange for Meg’s safety. Hades used this time to free the Titans and take over Olympus, while Hercules lost the will to fight because of Meg’s deception. A Cyclops was sent to eliminate Hercules and Meg convinced Phil to motivate the demoralized hero. Phil succeeded and Hercules defeated the Cyclops.
Meg was mortally wounded, and this broke Hades’ deal of Meg not being harmed; Hercules’ powers were restored and he was able to defeat the rest of the Titans. However, he was too late to save Meg from dying.
He confronted Hades in the Underworld and made a deal with him, his soul for Meg’s. Hades was unable to resist such an offer, shook the hero’s hand. As Hercules jumped into the River Styx, Hades called out that he would not survive the swim. Hercules retrieved Meg’s soul and threw Hades into Styx, where he was dragged to the depths by vengeful souls. He eventually got out, but his ego was severely bruised.
Later, the lioness Sarabi struck up a deal with him: She could return to the land of the living to deliver a message to her son (and stop a war from breaking out in her homeland) and he would have a servant for all of eternity.
Lastly, on the day of Megara and Hercules' engagement, Meg had wandered out to find flowers. This was the day the meteor shower began. Hades, seeing an opportunity, grabbed her elbow and dragged her towards the entrance to the Underworld. A giant star blocked their path and began to grow. Hades and Meg were caught in the blast and Meg eventually got away.
How they changed: God or mortal, the meteorite shower spared no one. Hades' love of making life altering deals ended up being a major factor in how the change affected him. While still immortal, Hades was no longer a god. He was relived to learn that his powers were still intact, though significantly lessened in strength. He found that the more deals he makes, the stronger his powers become. With enough servants under his control, Hades hopes that one day his powers will be restored to their full strength and he can find a way to undo the change from the fallen star.
