Not really!
Personality: Spike is a loyal, happy, easy going dog. He is an excellent judge of character, able to weed out those with bad intentions upon sighting them. He loves his master (Sinbad) and will obey his every command, but lets him know when he’s not doing the right thing. Spike’s moral compass is simple: bad actions and disobedience leads to punishment and good actions to praise. He is loyal to the crew of the Chimera and goes to extreme lengths to protect them. His number one priority is protecting the people he calls his pack/family. Spike gets along with almost anyone, as long as his or her intentions towards his pack are good. He is also very friendly towards children.

Spike was picked up as a pup by the original captain of the Chimera. He spent most of his puppyhood out on the sea, learning the ropes of being a pirate’s dog. A few years went by and the original captain was killed, and Sinbad, the first mate, was promoted. Spike liked Sinbad a little more than the rest of the crew (maybe it had something to do with Sinbad sneaking extra food to Spike, maybe it didn’t.) so he accepted the transition of power easily.
The high-energy life of a sea dog suited him well, and he proved his worth many times over. Once, he alerted the crew to a dangerous, armed stowaway. Another time, he chased off a Cyclops that wandered on the ship. (Taking the bone away from it was just a bonus.) Lately, he helped keep the crew out of the clutches of evil Sirens on the last big voyage.
As for how the magic affected him, he's been having ties to this boy with reddish hair (Hiccup) and an insatiable need to find him. Spike's been looking for him since the meteor shower.
