(ooc: Apologies for the strange title. It's sort of poking fun at an old Latin teacher I had. Anyway, the date is July 18. Open to all witches and wizards. It's meant to be a thread for Gothel to assess how far along their powers have come since they began training with her and for her to see how well off they are in terms of being prepared for the war. DO NOT let this thread get too fast. I don't want anyone getting left behind, lost, or confused.)
Two weeks. It had nearly been two weeks since the first battle had taken place practically outside their door. Gothel was none too pleased about the fact that a small handful of her supposed pupils had actually gone out to participate in the battle, and she was equally displeased that one had been injured to the point where a part of him hadn't been able to be saved. However, it was all water under the bridge by that point. Gothel knew there was no way she could continue to dance around the issue any longer. They needed to be prepared to do battle. She knew she was prepared, but her students? Probably not so much. That was why she had gathered them together in the courtyard. ...That, and it was the best place she could think of for them to train without risking setting something on fire or otherwise destroying something.
"All right. I suppose the lot of you are wondering why we're out here right now." Gothel said. She paced in front of her students, eyeing them with a knowing sort of look before stopping and folding her arms over her chest. They had to get serious. If they were to survive the war, they needed to be prepared for anything. It included being able to use their magic at a moment's notice. They couldn't let their magic act on its own any longer... if it did at all. "I'll be blunt. The fact that this war is happening at all has me concerned. As much as I don't want to, we're going to have to be prepared to participate in the fighting. Without almost getting killed in the process." Gothel stated. Her eyes narrowed as she turned her attention to Hiccup. She could see him shrink back a little as if he was trying to make himself appear smaller, but that didn't work on her. She could see him as plain as day.
"So, I've gathered us all out here for what I suppose you could call an assessment of sorts. I want each of you to show me you've improved since our last assessment. As for why we're out here, I thought it would be a nice change of scenery. And it seemed like the least likely environment for things to catch on fire. Like curtains."
"Jeez, you accidentally set fire to curtains once and she hates you for life." Hiccup grumbled.
"Anyway. This is more than your basic assessment." Gothel said. She seemed to have ignored Hiccup's gripe. There was no time to quarrel with her pupils over minor details. They needed to be ready. "I want you to treat this as if your life were in danger. Get in to pairs and spar against one another, but do NOT aim to hurt each other. The last thing we need is our light witches to go into healing overdrive because we got careless in this assessment." Gothel stated. She also didn't want to overwork the light witches. Healing seemed to be the specialty of most of them, and the last thing she wanted was for them to collapse from exhaustion all because someone got careless. Of course, there was also Rapunzel to help with the healing... if any healing actually needed to be done. Her daughter was also free to watch the assessment. Gothel knew well enough that Rapunzel was one of the best, if not the best, of her students.
"All right. Let's see what you all have to show me."
