(ooc: July 7. Open to Hiccup and all angels, but I'd like for the first few posts to be for Hiccup and Proteus.)
Between the fragmented illusions of his unconscious state and the vague shapes he had seen through barely opened eyes, Hiccup wouldn't have been able to tell anyone if he had a vague idea of where he was. He was only going on the vague notion that he was alive somewhere. Probably not in the woods, though. Snotlout would have torn him apart if he were still in the woods. So... where was he? How had he gotten there?
Open your eyes, you doof. Maybe then you'll see where you are.
Although he was unwilling, Hiccup listened to his thoughts and slowly opened his bleary eyes. He had to blink a couple of times to clear his vision, but after what felt like an eternity he was able to get a good look around where he was. The most he could make out was that it was someone's bedroom and it was fairly white in color. So, that ruled out Black Castle. Before Hiccup could really begin to try and determine where he was, though, his gaze shifted downward as he thought about what had happened. Or... what he could remember happening. He found that when he tried to think back to the fight between him and the demon, he could only remember blurred bits and pieces. He clearly remembered Astrid and seeing her sent off to who knew where, but other than that...
"What happened out there...?"
Hiccup slowly pushed himself into more of an upright position and finally glanced down to his arms. He'd tried to move his right hand to his throat when he heard how hoarse his voice sounded, but he found he couldn't move it. It was in a sling. Hiccup's eyes widened a little as he looked his arm over. Had he really been that badly injured? He shifted his attention to where the door was located and noticed for the first time that it was open. His first impulse was to assume that someone had forgotten to close it, but then his thoughts shifted to the possible idea of his being able to leave so he could find someone to explain what had happened. This clearly was the best course of action... at least as far as Hiccup could see.
Without thinking, Hiccup moved so that he would be able to let his feet touch the floor. Just as he would have gone to stand up, though, his attention shifted downward to his feet. If he wasn't already pale enough from almost dying, he certainly looked a great deal more pale when he saw what had become of him.
There, where the lower half of his left leg had once been, was a work of metal and wood. Hiccup felt as though he were frozen as he looked on. He had been hoping that maybe he hadn't been that badly injured. He had been wishing that maybe the fact that he had been stabbed had been a dream and that he had gotten away from the fight with only his injured arm. Clearly, this was a mistake.
"No... no... no... no..."
It was as if his mind was stuck on using that single word. Denial was evident in the redhead's tone, despite the fact that his body was shaking. He couldn't have been... he wasn't... wasn't like Gobber... he just couldn't be. He was so caught up in what he was seeing, what he had become, that he forgot the door of his temporary room was wide open. If anyone were to come that way, they would have seen him in his shattered state of denial.

Proteus had been in the room for awhile, waiting for the wizard to awaken. "I see you've finally come back to reality." he said, before walking over to Hiccup. "I know that it might be a bit of a shock for you...the leg." It was obvious what Proteus was talking about but something just made him need to say it.
"I am afraid, there wasn't much we could do. That demon blood was very powerful..."

Demon blood... yes, Hiccup remembered something about demon blood. He remembered Izaya saying something about his shadows being made from his blood. It didn't change the fact that it was a horrible shock to wake up to. His leg being... well, the way it was and all. It looked like something that would have come right out of Berk. Who had made it that way? And how?
Slowly, Hiccup removed his gaze from his leg and looked up to Proteus. Evidently the angel had been there longer than he thought, as Hiccup hadn't even noticed him there before. "Gods... this... I shouldn't have been out there..." Hiccup murmured. Fragmented thoughts were the most he could put together in his state at that moment. It was horrible. He couldn't think of a time before then when his mind had been so jumbled.
"There... there wasn't anything you... you could have done?" Hiccup asked. It was more of him repeating what had already been said, but he still felt the need to ask.

Proteus shook his head. "I'm afraid that replacing your leg was the best we could do." he said taking a seat. "You were lucky, if we hadn't been there at all, you would have been dead. The battle has pretty much cleared up now, from what i can tell. but we wanted you to get some rest and see how you were."
He sighed. "The battle...why were you out there to begin with if you don't mind me asking."

Maybe it would have been better if you had died...
The more morbid part of Hiccup seemed to have taken control for a brief moment as is eyes squeezed shut. He was trying to keep control over his emotions. Fear, anger at himself for going out of the castle in the first place, a sort of nauseous feeling just from looking at what he had become... it was all a mess in his mind. After a few moments of thinking things over, though, he focused on Proteus' question. It seemed to be the big question at the moment. Just what had he been doing out there when Gothel had been so adamant about not wanting to fight?
"I... I was trying to get rid of this limp I had. It's gone now, but..." Hiccup let his eyes open again and briefly let his gaze linger on the aforementioned leg. On the very slight plus side, it was good that his limp was gone. Or at least it seemed to be gone. On the minus side... now he had an even bigger problem to work out. "I didn't even want to stick around, but when I saw Astrid out there..."
...Astrid. You still don't know how she is. Or where she is!
Against his better judgment, Hiccup forced himself to stand. He immediately regretted his decision, though, as pain shot through his left leg when he put weight on it. Despite that, he didn't sit. Call it Viking stubbornness that bordered on crazy. Hiccup just couldn't let himself not know what had happened to Astrid. "A-Astrid... my... my friend. Wh-where is she?"

The Angel Prince stared at the boy for a long time. He seemed very worried and who wouldn't be after just being beat up by a demon. A vampire demon no less. The mention of his young friend brought more worry to his face. "I'm afraid, i didn't see an Astrid or a friend of yours. All i know is that a young demon huntress brought you here with me."

No... no, no, no...
Whether it was from the sheer fact that weight was being applied to such a new prosthetic or the fact that Proteus didn't know what had happened to Astrid was difficult to tell. Hiccup could feel himself wobbling as the revelation hit him. His friend was out there somewhere, and for all he knew she could have needed help. Hell, she'd practically risked her life to try and save him! "I... I have to find her." Hiccup managed to say.
Even though his mind was screaming for him to sit down, Viking stubbornness had taken over his rational thought and seemed to be trying to move Hiccup forward. His weight went to his right side as he tentatively lifted what had once been his left leg, but as soon as he took a step an intense pain such as he had never thought he would feel shot through him. Were he paying attention, he would have seen the green-haired angel arriving just moments before he'd buckled under his own weight. Before he could hit the floor, he felt himself being caught by someone.
"Don't try to walk! You've only just woken up!" Ion scolded. The green-haired angel was silently scolding himself for not joining Proteus sooner. If he had, he could have prevented Hiccup from doing something so foolish as trying to leave while his body wasn't quite stable yet.
"He's not taking this well, is he?" Ion asked Proteus, keeping the question quiet so as not to freak Hiccup out further while he helped the redheaded wizard try to get back to where he had been seated beside Proteus moments before.

Proteus shook his head at Ion's question. "Taking it well is the last thing he is doing." he replied. "Young Wizard you need to relax, everyone is ok. I am sure your little werewolf friend is fine, but if you would like...i could send someone out and report to you."
He was sure that would make things a little easier for the young wizard but then agian he wasn't sure. Demons were not easily defeated and hardly ever left injured alive. So why did this one?

Everyone was okay? Everyone was okay?? No, everyone was not okay! He was... was... crippled! It was bad enough that he was probably considered the laughing stock of the wizards and witches, but now he had something to show for the fact that he was a screw up! It certainly didn't help with Hiccup's already low self esteem, that was for sure. He did allow himself to finally relax just a little, though, when he found himself seated on the bed again. "R-Relax? How... how can I relax? I ended up in a fight I didn't want to be a part of in the first place, could have potentially died, and I wake up to find I'm a... a..." Hiccup let himself trail off and simply gestured to the accursed prosthetic leg. He did want to complete his thought, but the gentle hand of Ion resting on his shoulder seemed to silence him temporarily.
The silence gave Hiccup a moment to let Proteus' words sink in. It was only then that he realized Proteus had said something about Astrid. How... how had he known what Astrid was? Hiccup hadn't even said anything about Astrid being a werewolf. Even if he did know, Hiccup decided not to worry with that part. The question was whether or not he wanted to actually confirm his darker thoughts and find out if Astrid was dead or not. In the end, though, Hiccup shook his head. "No... you don't have to do that. I don't even know what happened to her. She might not even be out there anymore." he murmured. A dark thought to say the very least, but Hiccup couldn't shake it. "Besides... if anyone's going to look for her, it'd be me."
"But you're not in any condition to go looking for your friend just yet." Ion pointed out. Hiccup had fallen just from taking a single step. He didn't want to imagine the young wizard trying to leave the Kingdom of Light on his own. Not without him and Proteus making sure that he was in the proper condition to leave. "I don't think your friend would appreciate you putting your life in danger just because you were concerned about her. It is a noble thought, but you need to get used to walking with that new leg before we can let you go back home. And besides that, I want to make sure you're really all right first. You gave us a pretty good scare. I... didn't know if you were going to make it for a while." Ion admitted.
Hiccup found his emerald gaze shifting to Ion's as his words sank in. He... had almost died? Hiccup hadn't been certain if he had gotten that close to death or not, but the idea that he had was unnerving. He wanted to protest against what Ion had said. He wanted to go out by himself and go looking for Astrid. However, he stayed silent. The sensible side of the young Viking knew they were right; he did need to let his body recover a bit more before he went off and did something reckless. At length, Hiccup gave a little nod to signify that he understood what Ion had said.
"Now then, can we at least know your name before we carry this discussion on any further? I'd at least like to know who you are." Ion said.
"...It's Hiccup." came Hiccup's soft reply. He didn't know how judgmental angels were, but he was hoping they wouldn't make fun of his name. It was always the silent hope that he had when he met new individuals. His name was just so out of the ordinary. It would have made sense if someone questioned what kind of name it was.

"Hiccup." Proteus repeated. Yes it was an odd name but he was used to dealing with very odd names lately. Ion, Genie, Giselle, Helia, yes even his own name was considered odd. "Well Hiccup, its good to see you are alive. You did have us worried. My name is Proteus, leader of the fallen angels."

Hiccup. It was indeed a strange name. Ion doubted it had any significant meaning behind it, but the way Hiccup had said it made him think that perhaps the boy was ashamed of it or something. It didn't sound like a pleasant sort of name. In fact, Ion almost thought it sounded degrading. With Hiccup's red hair, Ion had almost assumed his name to be Luke. The name had significance back where he was from. It meant 'light of the sacred flame', which could have easily been attributed to Hiccup's red hair. As it was, though, he supposed the redhead was stuck with the name he had been given. It was time for Ion to give his own introduction, anyway.
"And I'm Ion. Around here I'm known as Proteus' advisor. I suppose you could say I'm sort of a second in command. And this... well, it's my room. I thought it would be the best place for you to stay while you recovered." Ion said. He caught a brief glimpse of surprise in Hiccup's eyes, but Ion didn't comment on it. He was nice like that. It had been of his own free will that he gave up his room, so he really hadn't minded having to stay elsewhere.
One thought was nagging at Ion's mind, though. Did Hiccup remember anything from the fight he had been in? For that matter, did Hiccup know why the demon had decided to not kill him? "Hiccup... I know this must be a difficult question to grapple with, but do you remember any of what happened out there?" Ion asked.
Hiccup's immediate response was to shake his head. It was the truth; the poor wizard hardly remembered any of what he had been through. All he really could remember was a few bits and pieces of the actual fight, the moment his leg was stabbed, and the scene of Astrid being knocked into the deeper part of the woods. After that...
"I can't say that I do. It's like... a big blur. I don't remember much of the actual fight, but I do remember intense pain. And nausea." Hiccup said. He had felt like he was going to puke his guts out at one point. That had been avoided by some miracle. He did know his throat still felt odd, probably from the intense coughing fit he had suffered, and that he still felt like he was in a great deal of pain. Especially his leg seemed to be in pain. That, though, he assumed wasn't about to change. He'd lost it, after all. It wasn't like he could just sprout a new leg.
"...Why did you help me?" Hiccup asked at length. His attention had shifted to Proteus by that point. Hiccup would have understood if it had been a witch or wizard that had rescued him. They were his allies, after all. An angel, though, seemed rather unlikely. He'd almost assumed Proteus was his enemy when he'd seen him through the blurred vision brought on by nearing unconsciousness. What had made Proteus want to help a reject like him?
