(ooc: July 25th. Open only to witches/wizards.)
For several moments, Hiccup remained still as a statue with his hands outstretched and his eyes closed. His breathing was slow and relaxed, and it almost seemed as if he was more calm than he had been before. Hiccup couldn't say he felt any more confident in his abilities as a wizard, but he did seem more relaxed. His frequenting the forest and occasionally dropping in on Toothless, the dragon he had encountered before, and Flynn seemed to have helped him. He hadn't told anyone about those two things, not even Astrid, but he did know he felt a bit better about himself. Only a bit, though. Gothel had become more strict in terms of his training just the day before. She wanted him to keep practicing, and that had led him to trying one last time to cast a more powerful fire spell of his own free will. He'd picked a room free of flammable objects (outside of candles) and found himself where he was at the present moment. All he had to do was see if he could make fire on his own.
Come on... come on... give me something powerful. Anything...
Deep within him, he felt a burst of heat beginning to flow through his body. It was a somewhat familiar feeling; Hiccup recalled the feeling from his fight with Izaya, at least vaguely, and he wanted to recreate it. Emerald green eyes slowly opened and he was met with the sight of little embers appearing at the tips of his fingers. A big old smile broke out across his face as the feeling of warmth in his hands grew, and the flames in front of him grew larger. He was doing it. He was doing it! He finally had control! He finally had-
WHOOSH!
The flames seemed to explode in front of him, and a yelp came from within him. The warmth died down and Hiccup was knocked back. He stumbled backward and desperately tried to regain control of his stability before finally regaining his balance, only to let a flabbergasted expression cross his face. He'd been so close! Why couldn't he control more powerful fire bursts of his own free will??
"Gods dammit! Why can't I get this?!"

"Wow!" Wilbur said coming in at the last moment. "That was pretty amazing..." he said with a smile. "I wish i could do fire magic, all i can do is make dinosaurs appear, and let me tell you that it isn't that great once one destorys your house." He meant this in a joking way but all the same he was impressed by hiccup's power

Hiccup just stared in a sort of dumbfounded way as he processed what Wilbur was saying. He was actually impressed with his lack of control? Or... was it a lack of control at all? Maybe the exploding flames had been intentional, and his body had just reacted to that intention. ...And maybe Terrible Terrors were threatening. "Yeah... I guess it's great if you want a fast way to make something explode." Hiccup deadpanned. He shook his head after a moment and brushed his hands together as if trying to brush off imaginary ashes before thinking of what else he could say.
"It was powerful, I could feel that much, but I just... can't seem to get the control of it down. Or maybe I'm trying too hard to find that control. I don't know. You think I'm trying too hard?" Hiccup asked. It was a possibility that had crossed his mind once or twice before. Maybe if he stopped worrying so much then he would finally find his center.

Wilbur raised an eyebrow at the question. "If you aren't trying too hard then there's no point." he replied. "Can't get it right the first time? Then keep moving forward, keep trying until you get it right. That's what my old man says." he smiled before looking at the boy again. "Fire is meant to be a hard element to control, but we are all given our most powerful magic for a reason."

A soft sigh escaped Hiccup after a moment. He had been told that fire was difficult to master, and even Gothel said that she had had difficulty when learning it, but that didn't make him feel any better. The rest of what Wilbur had said, though, did seem to soothe him just a little. "I guess that's a good point. At least I didn't set something on fire this time. ...Though lighting candles would be handy. That's beside the point." Hiccup said. Wilbur must have been having difficulties with his own element, so they were in the same boat. "I just wish I knew what I was doing, you know? I mean... I feel like I know sort of what to do, but I can't recreate what I feel a lot of the time. Maybe I'm just weird. I don't know." he sighed.
"So... how goes it with you? Any luck getting a better handle on this time power of yours?" Hiccup asked after a moment. He knew Wilbur was having difficulties, at least from what he had heard Polka offhandedly mention once before, but he didn't know if his friend had gotten any better since then. Maybe now they could practice together and see if they had improved.

"Afraid not," Wilbur said in reply to Hiccup's question about his own training. "Like you, i have no idea what i am doing, and winging it just seems to make things way worse. Like extremely worse." he had already gotten yelled it by Mami for making a strange portal in the library that almost sent her back to the dark ages. "It's not easy, and the books here aren't exactly helpful."

"Wow. I didn't know there was anything that could be worse than 'worse'." Hiccup said. It was his own attempt at making the situation lighter, but he didn't know if it was working. He shrugged a little and closed the distance between him and Wilbur after a moment, shuddering to himself as his metal foot decided to remedy the silence that followed with the steady clinking against the floor it made. When he'd moved close enough, Hiccup stopped walking and tried to think of what else there was to say. It was evident that he and the raven-haired boy shared some qualities in their training, but not really a lot to bond over. It could have merely been coincidence that they were having difficulties at the same time. Even still, if it was a coincidence then it was a rather large one.
"At least you don't have a mentor that would probably bite your head off for making a mistake." he snickered. Gothel was a difficult teacher, at least in Rapunzel's words, so it was only natural that the older witch would make things difficult for Hiccup. He didn't even know if she was well versed in time magic. If she were, wouldn't she have made more of an effort to teach Wilbur? "I don't know, it just seems odd that we're struggling and everyone else seems to know what they're doing. Even Polka seems to have a better grasp of her magic than we do." he remarked. Polka he had brought up because, despite the light witch's lack of confidence, she possessed great healing capabilities. How did she do it?
"It'd be so much easier if this stuff just came with a manual. Though where I come from, its instructions would probably consist of 'See a threat? Kill on sight' or 'YELL AT IT!', and I don't think either of those things would come in handy right now." another attempt to make his friend laugh. However, Hiccup's words rang true. He'd seen one specific page of the dragon book that didn't consist of the words 'kill on sight', and it had instructions to yell at whatever dragon one was facing. That was about all Hiccup had seen of the dragon book, though. Everything else he knew was from getting glimpses of raids and his final failure that had resulted in discovering his fire powers.

Wilbur smirked, "Believe me, I know the feeling of being unable to control this stuff. It's strange but teh first time I did this, i did it on accident. and well..let's just say Dinosaurs plus houses plus angry parents isn't something fun." the raven haired boy frowned a little bit but gave a tiny smile. "Though if it wasn't for this then we probably wouldn't have gotten to meet."
