Rapunzel looked at Snotlout doubtfully. "If I wrap my hair around your head... would I fix it?" Rapunzel had a finger on her chin, her frying pan held loosely between her fingers, her other hand idly twirled her hair as if actually considering the thought. Though Rapunzel looked at the two cousins somewhat sadly. Family that hated each other... it was depressing. How was that possible? Than again... all she had was a mother and didn't understand how siblings and cousins worked. Maybe wherever Hiccup came from it was customary for you to dislike one another? And the other burly teen picked on Hiccup? Enough for the two to dislike each other to take the scale to physical violence. Rapunzel's emerald eyes snapped towards Snotlout again.
"Blondie has a name you know. It's Rapunzel. Do you want me to call you brown funny head?" Rapunzel retorted. She honestly didn't care if she was called blondie or whatever, but the way the viking teen said it irritated her. 'And yes, I am a friend of Hiccup's. We've got a few friends actually, more than I can imagine you having." Rapunzel lifted her chin slightly, and puffed out her chest with 'pride'.
Astrid looked between the three conversing and shook her head. People were odd. The teen did remain silent though as Rapunzel and Snotlout began to get to know one another. More or less in a battle of wits. A battle which Astrid was sure Snotlout would lose. Pinhead. Pinhead? Out of all the names that he could have called Hiccup... Not that Astrid condoned the act of bullying on the teen, just... Snotlout could've done better than Pinhead. "Snotlout, I'm kind of scared. Your brain's about to self destruct, and I don't know how far away I need to be from the blast zone." Astrid chuckled lightly, swiping her resilient bangs. The blonde tendrils did fall once again from her ears. Hair- 109,894,768 + Astrid- Nada.

"Trust me. I don't think any amount of magic could save his brain." Hiccup laughed. Oh, yes, he was in much better spirits now that his leg wasn't killing him. He definitely seemed to have gained just a bit more confidence. He was actually mocking Snotlout publicly instead of in his mind. That was a big improvement. "Or what's left of it."
"Shut up, shrimp!" Snotlout snapped. Oh, yes. The blackish-brown haired teen had had enough of being mocked. It irritated him. Certainly didn't help the fact that his head really was beginning to hurt from the whole conversation. Turning his attention back to Rapunzel, Snotlout just rolled his eyes a little as she corrected him on her name. He'd heard Hiccup say it. He just chose to be a jerk about it. "So he isn't a complete failure after all. Congrats on making at least one friend. I'm sure Stoick would be very proud of you." Snotlout jeered.
With that, Hiccup froze. The comeback he had thought up for Snotlout's initial remark regarding how he had made a friend died on his tongue and his eyes grew wide, almost like he had been jabbed in the stomach or been injured all over again. Snotlout, quite obviously, had struck the oh-so tender cord within Hiccup's being. Inside, Hiccup was screaming to not let that weaker side of himself show through. However, his face betrayed everything. Snotlout evidently had caught on to that fact, as Hiccup could see him sneering at him.
"Oh, that's right. Daddy banished you. He wouldn't be proud of you, anyway." Snotlout jeered. Actually, upon doing the slightest bit of thinking, Snotlout came to realize that dealing internal pain to his cousin was a lot more satisfying than he remembered. It was glorious! Unfortunately, he had run out of amo to fire in Hiccup's general direction. He also wasn't too keen on sticking around to see how Astrid and Rapunzel reacted to his jeers. So, Snotlout shifted to wolf form again and snorted as he started to pad away. "I'd love to stay, but I think I just got what I was looking for. I'll see you later, Astrid." Snotlout said. He intentionally left Rapunzel and Hiccup out of his farewell. The werewolf wanted nothing more to do with them at that moment. With that, Snotlout bounded off back into the forest.
Hiccup felt his body sag a bit as Snotlout left, but he said nothing. The hurt in his eyes from the internal pain of Snotlout's words said enough. Astrid, at least, hadn't gone quite that far when she unintentionally brought up memories of home. Snotlout had crossed the line, gone back over it with a steamroller, and absolutely destroyed it.

Astrid's lips were pursed, and she refused to answer Snotlout. The snarky, jeering teen had crossed the line. To bad Astrid knew it was the truth, she'd still talk to Snotlout, probably run into him again on her territory without attempting to force him off. How sad was that? Torn between the just cause- Hiccup, and the ignorant, but friendly viking- Snotlout. She knew she wasn't going to choose any time soon. Snotlout disappeared into the forest, and Astrid couldn't help but think of the one word describing the scruffy teen at the moment. Coward. Astrid half wished the teen would've attacked her, she would've set him straight and in his place. He hadn't though, and she hadn't.
Astrid noticed the sag of Hiccup's body and she rested a hand on his shoulder. "It doesn't matter Hiccup." She said hesitantly truly unsure of how to proceed. She wasn't the best at comforting someone. She was a warrior, she had no talents that came with a mother or softy in general. Well... not entirely. She didn't fight emotional warfare like many had switched too, she preferred the satisfaction of physical warfare. She was very unaware of how to console the obviously distraught red head. Great, huh? Astrid only continued to pat Hiccup's shoulder, trying to convey her feelings of -Snotlout crossed the line, I don't agree- through the simple action. Blue eyes sought the emerald green eyes of Rapunzel.
-----
Rapunzel had the frying pan in tight grip, twirling it on her palm. She wasn't just acting like she was contemplating chucking it into the darkness after the werewolf. "If he wasn't so fast he'd have a huge bump on his head. He fights like a girl too." Rapunzel said steadily, releasing the frying pan to her side, and stroking her hair. It couldn't heal an idiot like Snotlout, but she wished she could ease a broken heart. She'd never experienced something that Hiccup had. His family abandoning him... banishing him. She didn't expect to really feel that way. She wouldn't pretend to understand Snotlout and Hiccup's relationship. Astrid was clearly Hiccup's friend though, she hadn't fled into the forest with the other teen.
"Hiccup, don't look so sad." Her emerald eyes sought his, sadness but determination in them. "You've got family and people who like you. Me for example!" She added enthusiastically. Her eyes darted to the other blonde as a raspy 'cough' broke and she'd turned her head into the elbow of the arm facing away from the wizard and witch. "We're in it together, and there's Wilbur, and Luna, and... and..." names were running through Rapunzel's head, trying to encourage the viking boy to try and smile or loosen up, forget the incident.
"I mean we all like you! And fruit." Rapunzel had sometimes found that changing a subject or causing a random though could halt ones thought process. It had often worked mid lecture when Mother had caught her not studying or trying to get out from the castle and to far.

...They had a point. Very valid points, actually. Hiccup realized he shouldn't let Snotlout get to him, but the bulky teen had always been like that. Always looking for his weak points and easily prodding them. At least, that was how it had been in recent years. Slowly, Hiccup found himself coming out of his stunned, broken sort of stupor by the feeling of Astrid's hand against his shoulder.
"Gods... why do I keep letting him get to me like that?" he murmured. He glanced up at the two blondes, a thankful sort of smile coming across his features, but it faltered slightly at Rapunzel's last comment. Fruit? "...Okay, I think you just won the award for most random comment of the day." Hiccup said. It was hard for him to not laugh at that notion, though. It was just so random after the internal blow he'd been dealt that it was difficult not to find some joy in it. In a way, Hiccup was grateful though. Someone had to keep him from being a little puddle of sadness in a corner somewhere.
"You guys are right. Snotlout's... just a jerk." Hiccup finally said. Silently, Hiccup hoped that something rotten would happen to Snotlout later. A tree falling on him, perhaps? ...Nah. Too mean. "You think it'd be too mean if we got all the fruit we could find and started pelting it at him?" Hiccup asked, obviously joking as an amused sort of smile faintly appeared where the grateful one had been up until he'd registered Rapunzel's fruit comment.
