Astrid sucked in a breath of air ready to fight the headache coming and continue the shouting match. She wasn't sure if hard headed was a good thing in this case. The head ache was coming up on her, but a thousand different sentences came to her mind to scream back at the red head. Of course she'd do that! She'd heard him, no one would leave him, the crap kicked out of him! she was sure someone was there with him anyway to help! She was going to voice these opinions, that x10. If they knew him no one would let him lie there and bleed out or whatever was going on. Her head was swimming and the red and black haze was coming from the corners of her eyes. She was aware of her clenched jaw and fists, the tension in her shoulders screaming to throw or hit something. Her face was getting red with the flush of anger boiling under her skin. She was the one who was supposed to be angry. She was supposed to be the reasonable one, the one who made sense. As of right now, she was only one of those things- angry and upset. Her mouth opened to talk back, shout some more angry words.
And Hiccup cut her off. He was talking about how he'd leave the angels to search for her if he'd been allowed. He'd do that for anyone who he saw go down by a vampire... Astrid tried to reason with herself. His hand went up in the air, more towards him than the world. It was a sign of his exasperation and frustration. Something weird was going on with his hand, but the teen wouldn't shut up. Astrid opened her mouth, ready to scream to put his hand down, interrupt him and continue on her own rant. And just like that, fire. Last she'd seen he'd sent a flame flickering to her own face. This one was much different, the other one was of fear and surprise. This one was the clear frustration of the screaming match. Astrid's mouth closed after that. Worry flashing in her eyes as she took a step forward. Hiccup was clearing his vision, and Astrid expected him to be quiet after, actually think of what had just happened.
She was sorely mistaken. "Gods dammit, I care about you Astrid! Why the hell do you think I keep coming out here? It's not because I'm looking to make amends with Snotlout, that's for sure!"
Astrid was stunned, and all the boiling anger and the fire in her bloodstream seemed to be blown out by a blizzard. Her muscles and bones went rigid, her eyes as large as a deer, surprise evident in her features. She hadn't expected this. Hadn't expected Hiccup to say something like that. For a minute everything felt clear and well... she thought she cared about him too. Than a haze of emotions fell down on her, and Astrid did what could've been the stupidest or smartest things in her life. She took a step forward, grabbed him by the front of his shirt...
and kissed him.
After, Astrid made a hasty retreat, two steps back, looking down at her shoes. Fascinating how the fur was dry now... Astrid's braid was now over her shoulder and she was fiddling with the hair. She'd momentarily forgotten Polka's presence and glanced sideways. She caught the girl's face and the slight shake of her head. If Hiccup's words hadn't hurt the poor girl. But Astrid couldn't feel guilty if she wanted to.
"I... care about you too?" She might as well say it, if only to make her point across. This is not sappy, this is not sappy, this is not sappy...

It took several moments for Hiccup to calm down fully. Several moments was plenty of time for him to take in the fact that his shirt was being grabbed, he was being pulled forward, and... instead of the punch he would have expected there was a kiss. Well, that certainly got the redhead to shut up. His desire to argue had pretty much died in that moment. He hadn't expected Astrid to actually do that. Then again, he probably hadn't expected himself to say anything like what he had actually said. It just kind of came out. He'd only just realized what he'd said, and frankly didn't know whether to be flustered or glad that he had.
Then she confirmed that she cared too. It was more of a question than his own confirmation, but he would take it. It was better than the yelling match. Now that he'd calmed down, though, he felt like he would be able to speak more coherently. "...Remind me never to freak out like that again. Fire to the face is not pleasant." he said. Now that that was out of the way, he really did have something else to say.
"Let's just leave it at... I may have a few friends that happen to be girls, but you're... different. That's a good thing, trust me. I just don't know how else to say it."

Astrid gave a nervous smile and laugh. "I'll remember that. Remind me not to get into a screaming match with you again. I've got a nice headache now." It was funny how everything went from screaming, anger, and upset to well... this. Astrid was happy none of the vikings were there though. If they had been, there'd be a lot of stupid remarks and consequently plenty of broken noses from an angry Astrid. Who if there was a Snotlout or Tuffnut around, would have taken great note of the rocks and branches around. Astrid really did owe the forest an apology for that... She probably wasn't on Mother Nature's good side. Astrid smiled coyly as Hiccup continued to talk.
"I'd hope that's a good thing, at least for your sake. " she smiled jabbing him lightly. Than Polka entered her mind and she cast a glance over to the girl. She was wondering what her blonde 'twin' would make of this. There actually wasn't much she could make of it besides... well what just happened. It went to show Astrid was right though, this place was much different than home. For once, she didn't feel the need to be homesick. And Hiccup was now upped on the 'don't let die' priority list. "And you're not a normal viking, which is a very good thing in my opinion." Astrid smiled, starting to walk away, waiting a bit to make sure Hiccup followed. She was walking back to where Polka was, they couldn't stand there forever and they couldn't leave the shy blonde. Or let the fruit Astrid brought rot there. The rodents, birds and insects would be upon it if they did.
"And that's one way to shut you up." Astrid called over her shoulder before taking a breath and standing by the tree. Astrid was very unsure of what to do. She wouldn't say sorry, and a 'hey what's up?' and a 'how much did you hear/see?' just didn't seem appropriate. Blue eyes looked up, ready to face the other girl's expression.

(ooc: CX Better than my above post of shortness.)
...That was it? The arguing was over, and they were okay with each other again? Polka was relieved for that much. However, she didn't quite know what to make of what had happened. Her own admission to the fact that she had liked Hiccup spiraled out into the yelling match that had come about. She couldn't just leave, though. As much as Polka wanted to leave and get out her own frustrations over how stupid she felt, she couldn't let herself leave. It just wouldn't be right. As Astrid walked toward her, Polka faked a little smile to show that she was all right knowing that Hiccup and Astrid were okay with each other now.
"I'm glad that's over." she managed to say. Admittedly, she did have a headache from listening to the yelling. She could only imagine that Astrid and Hiccup felt the same. "That was... some yelling match." she said. Was that really all she had to say? Could she really say nothing else in response to what had happened? Hiccup had pretty much shattered her dreams. Crushed her hopes! Did that matter? Well... yes. It stung. But Polka wasn't the type to bear a grudge. Astrid was everything she wasn't. She could go toe to toe with Hiccup in a yelling match and was able to speak her mind better than Polka could. That seemed to matter more than anything else.
"It's only because you catch me off guard!" Hiccup called to Astrid. Pitiful, yes, but that was the best he could come up with in response to what Astrid had said. He followed after her, but came to a stop when he was a little closer to Polka. Concern actually was there in those emerald eyes of his. "You... okay?" Hiccup asked.
"Oh... I'm fine. I... should have realized that maybe it wasn't the best time to say it. But I am okay. Really." Polka replied. Once more, she proved to herself that she wasn't a good liar. She still was a bit hurt by what had transpired. In the end, though, she couldn't do anything to change what had happened. It had happened. She couldn't make it so that it didn't. She also couldn't change the fact that Hiccup liked someone else.

Astrid nodded to Polka. "Yeah... sorry about that. I think we got... a little carried away." A little wasn't even close, but if it was, well than what was a lot? Astrid sat down, leaning against the tree and grabbed an apricot, slowly munching on it. Sure these fruits weren't the best, but it was better than stolen fruit. At least in her opinion. Astrid sat, quietly thinking, and than Hiccup called from behind and came back to view. Concern for the girl which Astrid now felt no enmity towards.
"Sure, well there's another way, surprise." Astrid smiled, looking between the two. For once it was her trying to lighten a mood between the three. Astrid did want to know Polka's thoughts, not like the girl would speak them. Astrid tried to read the girl's body language as she replied to Hiccup.
By the looks of it and the sound of her voice, she wasn't all well. Astrid grabbed and apple and lightly tossed it to the girl. "Catch." She threw another towards Hiccup. Astrid tried to push away the awkward feeling. At least Polka didn't seem to be the vengeful type. Astrid finished her apricot, throwing the rest to the side. Astrid wondered to herself though, after that little screaming episode with Hiccup. What did that make them? Shaking her head clear, not another question. Certainly not one she'd ask in Polka's presence. She didn't want to rub salt into the wound. Astrid looked around and beckoned for Hiccup to come sit. She'd settled down visibly and seemed more relaxed.
Astrid wondered what they should do later after finishing eating. It seemed too awkward to remain here. There really wasn't much they could do in the forest anyway. Astrid brought her knees up to her chest and draped her arms over them. "You know, when you guys are done eating you should show me what you've been learning at the castle." Astrid smiled, trying to keep the conversation going.

Polka was, admittedly, caught off guard by Astrid's sudden desire to throw fruit her way. She'd almost forgotten that they were originally going to have something to eat before the shouting match had begun. Although it was a bit of an awkward catch, Polka did succeed in catching the apple before it could hit her on the head. That little victory seemed to set her mind at ease. At least she had succeeded at something that day. It looked like Hiccup was having difficulty, though. Polka looked his way just in time to watch as the redhead fumbled around with the fruit that had been thrown at him before ending up falling over on his face, followed by the fruit hitting him on the head.
A muffled 'I'm okay!' from Hiccup at least signified that the redhead was okay. Bemused by that little episode, Polka began to eat her apple. "I don't know. My magic isn't really anything that noteworthy. Besides that... I haven't anyone to heal." Polka pointed out. Her magic was mainly in relation to healing. Unlike most light witches that seemed to dabble in creating balls of light, Polka's magic was more closely related to the other light witch element. Namely healing. "Although, I think Hiccup could show us a thing or two with his fire. Unless he's already worn himself out." Polka giggled.
"Hey. That was completely unintentional. I just forgot that fire is closely tied to emotions." Hiccup deadpanned. He stood up again, brushing himself off a bit as he did, and finally took a bite out of his apple. Somehow, falling over had made it worth it. If that made any sense. "But if you really want, I guess I could show you what I know. Or at least what I remember knowing how to do. I guarantee nothing spectacular." Hiccup said.

Astrid sighed and shook her head as Hiccup fell on his face.To add to it the apple knocked him on the head. His hand eye coordination was off to put nicely it seemed. How did the scrawny red head ever was another question to the world as well as how'd she'd grown fond of the teen. "If clumsiness was a disease you'd have the perfect subject to try and heal.: Astrid laughed a hand waving at the viking teen. Astrid nodded in agreement with Polka's suggestion. Astrid had never seen Hiccup intentionally use his magic. She'd only been the subject of the fire as well as just witnessing an episode of emotionally charged fire. Emotionally tied... well Astrid would have to keep that in mind. Just to be on the safe side in case of their next screaming match. Astrid had no doubt that this wouldn't be the last one. She could see many months or years to come of it. Had she been in Berk and her and Hiccup's relationship had become this, she was sure she could guarantee months. Here... well here was much different.
"Yes Hiccup, show us your amazing wizard magic. I've only ever seen it shot at someone's face." Astrid smiled, reching for a handful of black and gooseberries, popping the tiny morsels into her mouth and chewing slowly. She normally saved the fruits in berries until necessary, she didn't want to waste them as she had them on limited supply. "So how does this whole magic thing work? Do you go Abracadabra, or open sesame or something?" Astrid asked, leaning forward. She was truly curious to see if fire magic worked like some of the healing magic she'd seen before. Rapunzel had to sing an incantation, and if Hiccup had to do such a thing for fire... well that'd be downright entertaining.
"Do you have to sing like Rapunzel or something?" The girl gave muffled laughter, but otherwise had a straight, curious face. "And your... at least somewhat fire proof? I don't want to drag you through the forest to get you treated for 3rd degree burns." The girl continued, her voice taking on a more concerned note. Fire wizards were kinda fire proof right? What'd be the point if they weren't? They'd keep getting burned... Well Hiccup already had the ash residue after using it... As long as the teen didn't burn himself through a spell mishap, Astrid would relax, but the girl had gotten herself tensed up in case something bad happened. Nothing bad would happen... There'd already been severe embarrassment on Polka's part, awkwardness on Hiccup's and a very loud, aggressive verbal match between the redhead and Astrid. It seemed if anything they'd gotten everything that could go wrong in a day out into the open. What more could be left?
She surely hoped the gods didn't take that as a challenge.

Oh, I bet they'd just love to see that.
It may have taken him longer than necessary to figure out what Polka had been hinting at all day, but it didn't take a genius to figure out that somehow or another he was being mocked. The redhead just rolled his eyes a little as he finished off his apple and tossed the core away from him. "Actually, I have to do a little dance while wearing a leaf as a hat." Hiccup replied. The sarcasm was easy enough to identify on his part. Singing was a part of Rapunzel's magic. She seemed to be the only one with song as a part of her goings on.
"In all seriousness, it's more a matter of... concentration, I guess. At least when it comes to lighting something like a candle. Just... don't ask me to do that. I've been trying for ages and I still can't get the stupid thing to work right." Hiccup said. Maybe it was just that he didn't have a very good grasp of just where he wanted to send his fire when it came to a specific place. He could shoot it in a general direction, and it seemed to act of its own accord at times, but beyond that he felt like he didn't have much control in regards to getting it to go in a specific place. Especially smaller places.
"Gothel keeps telling me fire is tied to emotions and that I need to be levelheaded and concentrate when I'm trying to use it outside of battle. Otherwise... well, we all saw what just happened." he said. He had to remind himself in the future not to have his hands anywhere near his face if he got into a shouting match again. Rather than telling them more, though, Hiccup thought it would be a good idea to show them instead. But what could he show them?
Hiccup fell silent and began to think of what he could show them. Astrid had already seen him shoot fire, as had Polka. So what did that leave? Manipulating it, he supposed, but he still didn't quite have a grasp on how to do it. "Well... aside from just shooting it and making fireballs, there's also fire manipulation. You know, you summon it and make it do what you want. I haven't quite mastered it yet, but I guess I could give it another shot." Hiccup said at length.
For several moments, Hiccup tried to make fire appear. It really did feel like it was hit and miss with actually getting it to cooperate. As each moment passed, Hiccup could feel himself getting frustrated again. This usually led to something blowing up in his face one way or another. No. Not again. Hiccup didn't want that to happen again. Especially not in front of his friends. Whether he knew it or not, though, there was something happening within him. Somehow, his frustration seemed to be triggering a vague memory of the fight he'd been in with Izaya. For a moment, it seemed like the fire was cooperating with him. There was a glow around him, almost like fire was really coming from within his body instead of just his hands, but just when he thought he was getting it right...
the feeling faded. The fire that had been trying to form around him vanished without a second thought, and instead Hiccup was left with nothing but exhaustion. Even if it didn't look like it, attempting such a feat had required a lot of energy on his part. With the feeling of fire gone from within him, Hiccup was left to just stand there and pant a bit in an attempt to regain his normal breathing.
"Dammit... I thought... that time for sure..."
Why did it feel like he actually was getting somewhere that time? Why did it feel like he vaguely knew what he was doing for once? Who really knew? All he knew was that he had made himself look like an idiot somehow. Again. At least this time, though, nothing blew up in his face.

Astrid heard the sarcasm... but she couldn't help but try and vision the scrawny teen dancing. It was a foreign, admittedly funny, concept. Than Astrid listened intently as Hiccup explained his powers. Concentration, being the key. When the scrawny teen shut up though, Astrid watched intently. At first, nothing. Than a faint glow started to surround the boy, the girl's blue eyes had widened slightly... If the idiot was trying to become a human torch... Astrid waited, would the boy really succeed? A few more moments, and slowly the glow died and Hiccup returned to normal. Slightly disappointed, but mostly intrigued, the girl sat up a bit straighter. Hiccup seemed to have the power, as was evident by multiple frustrations and emotions getting to him, he just never seemed to be able to get past some invisible barrier. Astrid silently mused to herself what that could be.
Maybe the teen couldn't keep a constant emotion going? Fire had always seemed so free too her, but Hiccup was trying to contain it, and concentrate it. Astrid didn't voice her thoughts though, she'd sound stupid. "That was actually pretty cool Hiccup. " Astrid complimented. If Hiccup ever did learn how to control his powers, well Astrid just might feel a bit inferior. She had the power to transform, yes, but she was still bound to close range attacks, fang and claw, as well as the compulsions and instinct that came along with such close ties to one animal. She wasn't a shapeshiter specifically, she didn't have to become close to a specific creature. As a werewolf though, a wolf was only a side of you with its own personality if you let it have its head. Those closer to more wild instincts had an easier time merging the two but harder time separating them.
It seemed Hiccup had his own problems to deal with his own powers. "To think if we were actually born with these powers... we might be better at them." Astrid mused aloud. Not to mention, probably still in Berk. Astrid shook of the slight pang of home sickness that had the equivalent to hunger pangs. "And maybe a dance does work." Astrid's lips turned up at the corners as she teased the red head.
Astrid rolled her shoulders. It had been a while since she'd sat and interacted with others. The feeling was odd, she'd been moving almost constantly for the past week. Only stopping to eat or sleep, and she was twitching to move. It seemed it had only been an hour or so since they'd joined up together, and so much had happened in that hour! It was close to overwhelming.
Now that Hiccup's little show was over, Astrid didn't really have much to show off, and Polka had stated her magic wasn't much of something she could use as offense. She healed mostly... and well the two had seen the extent to her werewolf transformation. The girl also didn't want to show the two the only other side of being a werewolf meant. It was mostly the bloody side, whether it was hunting or fighting, and neither seemed to be appropriate at the time.
"So you guys have any ideas of things you're just dying to do in the forest?" Astrid asked, looking at the two. Astrid had become so used to the forest she couldn't remember any fun she'd had before surviving became her main priority. There seemed to be a little less to do though, and the three were limited in their choices... for obvious reasons as to one of their physical conditions. Not that she'd deny the teen any idea he wanted to try out with the leg. She'd help all she could if it was reasonable and possible.

Hiccup had half a mind to actually try out a little dance in the vain hope that maybe, just once, his power would cooperate with him. The thought diminished, though, when he took in what else Astrid had said. She thought it was cool. Tired out redhead didn't quite know if it was true or not, but he took the remark regardless. It wasn't fair. Polka and Astrid had control over their powers. Everyone else seemed to be getting better at using them. All except him. It was annoying to Hiccup and he didn't even understand why he seemed to be the only one having a problem.
"It'd be cooler if I could actually get these stupid powers to work when I want them to." Hiccup said. His gaze drifted to his hand, and a small frown appeared on his face. Once again, he was the odd one out. "I don't know. It's like half the time I don't even have control over my own abilities and then it blows up in my face. Then other times I can keep them under control." he said. He didn't even consider that maybe he was missing the point somehow. Maybe he wasn't supposed to keep control. Had Hiccup considered that, then maybe he wouldn't have had a problem. But Gothel insisted on concentration being key. She was the master, after all, and had mastered fire herself. Too bad the raven-haired witch wasn't much help.
None of them wanted to hear him complain, though, and so Hiccup dropped the subject. Instead he turned it to what Astrid had asked in regards to doing something in the forest. "We could climb..." Hiccup stopped himself. No, they couldn't do that. He cursed silently when he remembered why. Of course it had to be him that would be slowing them down if they attempted to climb trees again. Well, so much for that. Time to pick an activity where you aren't grounded. he thought. "Given what else is out there... I guess exploring would be out of the question?" Hiccup asked.
Polka was beginning to feel like a bit of a third wheel in the group. All she was doing was just standing there, not really providing much in terms of conversation and feeling just a little left out. She did want to suggest just taking a forest stroll for the sake of it, but Hiccup had brought up a good point. With whatever else was out there, it probably wouldn't have been a good idea to go wandering about without much means of protecting themselves. Now they were running out of things to do. There had to be something she could suggest!
...Nope. The little blonde light witch was out of ideas. This bothered her. There had to be something, anything at all, for them to do in the middle of the forest by themselves. Sky blue gaze darted to the stream and caught sight of a little stick drifting by. Sticks... drifting...
"What about a stick race? We could... maybe find some sticks and see whose gets to a part of the stream before the others?" Polka finally asked. Immediately, she wished she could take back her suggestion. It sounded so stupid! There was no way they would go for it. ...Right?

Had Astrid been alone, well a walk would have been fine. But with a witch and wizard with her, both of whom had either little control over their magic or didn't have offensive/defensive magic... and only one of her... Well if anything were to go wrong there'd only be one Astrid and who knows how many targets. "Yeah a little exploration party might not be the best idea. Or should I give the dangers lecture again?" The girl smirked and than Polka gave an idea. Well... it wasn't to bad she guessed. Stick races... why not? "Okay Polka, I'm game." The girl smiled once more turning into a wolf and darting off. She figured if she was a dog she'd have a better chance of finding a stick. Dogs played fetch right?
So the girl sniffed around and until she found an exceptionally large branch, gnawed off the little branches and leaves that could slow it down and turned the end into a tip. Large teeth were very helpful. The girl than trotted back with her swiftly made boat stick, dropped it to the ground and turned back into the blonde teenage girl and bent down and picked up her stick. Even in something so simple, she was competitive. Nothing less was usually expected of her.
"Where's the race going too?" The blonde asked, hands on hips and somewhat eager.

(ooc: CX Because with Hiccup's luck, that would totally end up happening.)
Well, that was relieving. They at least hadn't shot down the idea and ridiculed the stupidity of it. The question of how far along the race would go didn't surprise Polka. She didn't know how far along the stream went, but however far it did would have been fine for her. "What about letting the sticks go as far as the stream goes? That way it's not too short a race." Polka said. She spied a stick that looked perfect. It was light weight and rather flimsy in appearance, but she thought it would be a good enough racing stick. She picked up the stick and let a little smile, a truthful one this time as opposed to the masked smile she had had when Hiccup asked if she was all right, form on her face. "It would be interesting to see how far the stream goes. And it would be like an adventure... only without so much danger." she said.
Without so much danger? Did you not hear what Astrid and Hiccup said about what lives out here?
Disregarding that thought, Polka thought it seemed like a fair enough idea for them to go as far as the stream did. It would give them plenty of racing room and no real determining point for the end of the race unless they actually did make it to the end of the stream. How far along could that have been? For that matter, how dangerous could it be? It was just a little stream. What was the worst that could happen?

((ooc: If you're not opposed to the idea >:3 than maybe we can add a little more Hiccup torture? And I hope this isn't too godmoddy of anything... though Its basically the sticks x3 ))
"Sounds like a plan, I've never actually followed it..." But how bad could it be? It was only a stream, it probably ended in a little lake or pond. It wasn't even that big. Astrid put down her stick, holding it in the water and holding it in the water, trusting the other two to add their sticks. She trusted hers to be large enough to gain a lead, as well as sturdy enough to face the waters. "Okay, sticks in. On your mark... get set... GO!" Astrid barked, turning into a wolf and trotting by her stick. It seemed to be going at an okay pace, all three seemed to be even. The dog was trotting blue eyes anxiously watching the stream's water. It only seemed to be pushing at a steady pace. Than, the water began to pick up and Astrid was going faster. Astrid was leaping over the small stream as the sticks gained pace. The stream would get wider, her hind legs barely clearing the banks, and sometimes thinner. Than, after landing back on the original side, Astrid saw the stream turning into a thicker branch of a river.
That was the end of Astrid's jumping. The girl did continued to lope at the tireless pace of wolves. Her own stubbornness and lean muscles keeping her body going, endurance had become one of the better things she'd received from becoming a werewolf. As the river widened, the blonde wolf kept an eye on the sticks. True to the earth, the sticks continued to stick close to the side of the river. Astrid's tongue was lolling out as she watched Polka's stick gain the lead. It was lighter and needed little push to glide across the water's surface. Astrid grumbled under her breath and continued to follow them. The grassy earth that had been under her feet had gotten softer, than became a mixture of dry dirt and mud. The occasional patch of grass relieving her paws of the sticky mud and hard pebbles of dirt. The steady stream had become white water, small rapids showing up. Polka's stick bouncing above and below the water but always following the river's current. Astrid's stick seemed slightly more defiant, giving the mini girl heart stopping tricks as it hit rocks and bounced in the air or to the side. Irritating arrogant stick.
Hiccup's stick was an entirely different matter moving somewhere between the pace of the other two with a willingness to cling to the water's surface. Astrid had completely ignored how the soft dirt had become to a wet rock. The texture seeming to scrape off the dirt and mud, trying to take off the skin of her paw pads. Astrid had more difficulty there.
She had to constantly keep the sticks in sight due to her stubbornness, as well as watch her footing between the cracks and overlapping of the rock. At least it was mostly flat. Astrid saw the sticks speed up, her own bouncing off the top of a rock and diving head first back down. Astrid was behind by than. All three sticks disappeared, her own going straight down in a plunge fit for a diver. Astrid looked ahead, and the roaring of water finally registered in her ears.
Fear gripped her and her heart sent adrenaline coursing through every fiber of her body, and Astrid tried to stop. The stop being to sudden and necessary to stop her from plunging over the side of the water fall. In an instant she went from blonde wolf, sliding close to the edge to a human on her stomach skidding to a stop. Of course with the pain of losing her breath, mud slapping on her side as well as cutting up her sides and legs. With a sickening lurch Astrid felt her go over the edge, as did the rest of her until it came to her tucked in elbows.
"Shit." The girl exclaimed with a shaky breath as she shuffled back with her elbows and knees, sitting up. Vertigo came to her and suddenly everything around her spun. Astrid blinked a few times and it all came back to perspective. Astrid had survived a quick brush with the edge of a cliff, her body shaking as it went to get over the shock and stop the adrenaline that kept her heart pumping fast. "To close. WAY to close for a stick race."

Polka and Hiccup had put their sticks in about the same time as Astrid, and before long the pair of them were following along behind her. Polka kept her gaze firmly fixed on the sticks, watching them go at various paces and even threatening to pass one another at various points. This was much more exciting than she had thought it would be. Then again, nothing exciting had ever happened to her back home before. Tenuto was, to put it bluntly, a bit boring. But this? This was exciting! As silly as it seemed, watching the sticks bob along in the water was incredibly fun for some reason or another. "Go sticks, go!" Polka exclaimed. She was only vaguely aware of the fact that the ground was turning rather muddy and the water turning more turbulent. She had no idea of what was going on ahead of her.
Then, her gaze shifted to Astrid. She only barely caught sight of what was happening. The werewolf girl apparently had slipped and...
Oh no...
It appeared as though the innocent stick race had taken a dangerous turn. The stream had gone straight into what appeared to be a waterfall. Polka struggled to stop herself from running, sliding in a vague attempt to come to a stop, before finally succeeding. Granted, her success cost her a little dignity in that she slipped and fell on her rear... but that was beside the point. She was safe. Sky blue gaze shifted back to where the sticks had been and a soft sigh escaped her. "Okay... at least we know this leads to a waterfall now." Polka said.
Hiccup, on the other hand, wasn't quite so fortunate. The redhead had been lagging behind a bit due to his leg and was only just beginning to catch up to the two girls. He didn't realize what was ahead of him. In fact, it was fairly safe to say that he had no idea there was a waterfall up ahead. Only when he caught sight of Polka and Astrid did he actually realize something wasn't right. However, Hiccup couldn't stop himself. The slick ground combined with his metallic foot made for a very nasty combination. Slipping and sliding, Hiccup neared the ledge.
"Hiccup! Stop!" Polka exclaimed.
"What does it look like I'm trying to do??"
Then, it seemed everything slowed down. One last slip of his metal foot led to what could only be described as the world showing once again that Hiccup had horrible, horrible luck. The redhead went flying over the ledge. Hiccup made one attempt at trying to grab on to save himself, but that worked about as well as trying to put out a fire with a paper towel. A dry paper towel at that. That is to say, not very well at all. For a moment it seemed as though Hiccup was floating in mid air. Only a moment, though. Before he could say anything, he was sent plummeting downward.

Of course all three of them couldn't have stopped and looked at each other bewildered. Staring until everyone had caught their breath and the first nervous laugh rang out. It couldn't have been one of those happy 'that was close' stories they could tell future generations without having caused themselves any real danger. Hiccup had to change that story to 'I fell off a cliff until mo- Astrid caught me and lifted me to safety' warnings of slipping and stupidity. Nope. Hiccup slid by her going straight over the edge and down. Astrid and slid back, flipping back onto her stomach and hooking her leg and foot around a rock. Her arm darting down and grabbing Hiccup by the wrist. Her metal shoulder pad making a high pitched, increasingly annoying grating sound that had Astrid clenching her teeth. Not to mention the pain of her extended arm, already cut open by her slide holding the weight of Hiccup, suspended who knows how high in the air without any footing. It seemed to feel more painful than any wound she'd ever sustained, and more suspenseful.
Hiccup's arm could slide right out of her hand, her legs could lose their grip, her hand could cramp and let go. Astrid had some doubt about pulling the teen up, a slippery surface was all she was attached to and Hiccup was attached to her by dangling arms. "Dammit Hiccup!" The girl growled. She could ill afford to waste any more energy yelling. Though if she was to get any instructions out she'd have to yell over the roar of the waterfall. A lot of this was her fault, had she payed attention... well she could've stopped the two seeing as she was ahead.
"Hey Hiccup, I know you wanted to see if you won and all... but was this really necessary?" Astrid managed to gasp out as she tried to slowly back up, her toes reaching for a foothold. For some reason the boy now weighed more than any axe she'd ever swung, and Astrid had been sure Hiccup weighed less. "Polka grab my legs, see if you can pull back or get me to another foothold. Hiccup, try and grabs something other than me without slipping." Astrid barked out her orders, still trying to shuffle back with Hiccup on her hand. Twisting so that her other arm was no longer pinned under her, Astrid grabbed for Hiccup's arm with her other hand and started tugging with her back, if only to get Hiccup closer to safety. If that's what the slippery rock that had caused this mess was called.
Needless to say that caused enough strain on her back, leaving her sore and if by the end of this she'd probably have pulled something. Astrid pulled, her eyes and nose scrunching up as she tried to pull the boy up. "I don't think you're exactly a fish bone anymore." Astrid grunted. Through it all, it seemed her sense of humor truly prevailed. It did have a knack of coming at the wrong times. This situation seemed to be no exception.
