Grab something? With WHAT?
Of course he had to be the one with a healing arm injury. Not to mention an arm in a sling. He caught a glimpse of a golden flash as Polka moved to grab Astrid's legs. Now that left his part of the deal. He had to help Astrid save him. Somehow, though, Hiccup did manage to wriggle his right arm out of the sling and make a grab for something. Anything. He would have been happy to grab a branch or something. In the end, though, Hiccup felt his hand grasp what felt like a hold in the ledge. "It's not... my fault. It's my... leg!" Hiccup growled. The stupid thing was weighing him down more than he would have liked. Without it... well, he wouldn't have been so heavy. But if he lost it...
Quit complaining! You can't do anything about it!
Right. Now all that was left for him to do was to try and assist Astrid in helping him up. He saw Polka pulling back on Astrid with all her might. Of course it had to be him that fell to his near unspeakable, untimely doom. Him with his stupid metallic foot slipping up on the slippery surface. If he hadn't gotten into that fight with Izaya, he wouldn't have been in this situation at the moment. But there was no time for berating himself for the stupid thing he had done. He had to get to safety.
His flesh foot had found a foothold and he was desperately trying to keep it there. His metal foot, on the other hand, wasn't having so much luck. No matter what he did, he couldn't get it to stay in a foothold. He did at least succeed in climbing up just a little bit, though, despite the discomfort he was in each time said prosthetic clanged against the side of the ledge and sent a surge of pain through the rest of his leg. "Did I mention the fact that I think the universe hates me at this point?"

"If you didn't say it before, I'm pretty sure it's implied by now." The girl grunted and with the help of Polka's pulling Astrid secured a better foothold and was now pulling with her legs. She was able to get her elbows over the edge, which was very uncomfortable on her left wrist (probably sprained). With a final tug with her legs and back combined Astrid was pretty sure she and Polka had tugged Hiccup a good way up. Now that Hiccup had claimed somewhat up, Astrid rolled back onto her knees and tugged, her pants now wet from the knees down to her shin. With a loud grunt, Astrid hauled him up. Turning her head, she looked to Polka. "Thanks, couldn't have done it without you." She said before rolling onto her back and closing her eyes, taking a deep breath.
"Hiccup, you're so lucky I just used all that energy to get you up, or I'd push you back off right now. After everything today, you basically attempted suicide." Astrid teased lightly, propping herself up on her scratched up elbows and arms. Moving towards the stream that ran into the waterfall, Astrid washed off her arms of all dirt and rocks, clearing off most of the blood. Than, moving on her belly she inched to the very edge of the waterfall. A disappointed scowl lit her face. " I can't see where the sticks are." Count on Astrid to be that girl. "I think we should vote not to pull anymore stunts. From just walking we had a screaming match, running, following a river we all almost fell off a cliff. And's its only the afternoon. " Astrid groaned walking back to the other two. Astrid sprawled out on her back, tilting her head to the side to look at them. That had taken a lot of energy out of the girl and she was sure that any adrenaline that had been stored over the past 10 days was damn near empty if not empty already.
"The next thing the universe decides to throw at us, I don't think we'll get as lucky." Astrid grumbled seriously, turning to look up at the sky. The sun radiated heat on the rock by the waterfall. No trees blocked its rays and the dark color of the rock seemed to just call for the sun to come and get it. "Either the gods hate you Hiccup, or the people your with." Astrid rolled over onto her stomach, propped up on her elbows, face in hand as she looked at the red headed teen and the blonde teen that had helped saved his life.

Having been pulled to safety, Hiccup allowed himself to sit down so that he could catch his breath. He would have loved to make some kind of comeback to Astrid's statements, he really would have, but the pain in his leg shut him up. Subconsciously he brought his hand to where the flesh met the prosthetic and began to rub it in an attempt to stop the throbbing. He had half a mind to point out that if he hadn't slipped he wouldn't have caused a problem in the first place. But he didn't want to speak. That would just lead to more yelling and, potentially, more unintentional fire being shot in his face.
Forget Hiccup the Useless as your title. You should be Hiccup the Unlucky. he thought. What sounded like a soft apology came from his lips, but whether or not it was audible had yet to be determined. He just wasn't in much of a mood to speak that much.
Polka, on the other hand, had sprawled out backward and was laying out on her back with her arms spread out as she caught her breath. "No... problem..." she panted. She was beginning to see why Hiccup was considered so incompetent by Gothel. He couldn't even walk without having something happen to him. ...Okay, in this case it had been running. That was beside the point, though. It was beginning to look like the universe was out to spite him some way or another.
Once Polka had caught her breath, she rose from her spot and looked in Astrid's direction. The werewolf girl had gotten herself banged up in the process of what had happened. Maybe now she could show off her healing skills... even if they weren't that spectacular. Sure her powers had become enhanced, but she still didn't think they were anything special. "Astrid, are you okay? I could... heal you if you needed me to." Polka decided to offer. She thought she heard a gripe coming from Hiccup's direction, but when she glanced his way all she saw was him grumbling to himself about his leg. Polka didn't say anything about that, though. She'd leave him to think on what had happened.

Astrid's pride made her hesitate. She wanted to say she needed no help, but why not? Astrid shrugged and nodded. "Why not?" The girl muttered scooting closer to Polka and presenting her arms. Her left wrist was already starting to swell and Astrid decided the conclusion that it was sprained seemed to be spot on. Hiccup seemed to be muttering to himself and it became increasingly amusing. The teen was grumbling to himself, hands messaging where flesh and metal met.
"That was way too close." The girl muttered eyes traveling to the waterfall that was thundering down into the open space. It seemed to be intentionally hurling itself over the edge. Suicidal water... Astrid sighed and waited for the healing. She trusted the light witch despite everything that had happened today that might've made the light witch herself look upon Astrid with an ill eye. Oh well. The blonde seemed to be thinking to herself about the day's events. Maybe going for a walk hadn't been such a dangerous idea than she'd though it might've been. Than again... if following some sticks had nearly ended up in their untimely demise, what could a walk bring? Certainly not as much ill fortune.
Maybe Hiccup was right though, maybe he was unlucky. This, Astrid didn't necessarily believe. Much bad had befallen the youth but... maybe a lot of bad would lead way to the good? Things had to get bad to get better right? At least she'd heard some philosophy like that. Especially with the dragons. Either that, or maybe there was some unknown curse on the heads of all the vikings. Just triggered by the new generation of teenagers. Or that star hypothesis Hiccup had told her once. There were already 2 werewolves and wizard from the small tribe. Wonderful.

Admittedly, Polka was tempted to ask if Hiccup griping to himself was a common occurrence. She'd never actually seen him do so before. Then again, Polka attributed that fact to her not really seeing all that many of her allies around the castle. Pushing those thoughts away, Polka turned her attention to Astrid's injured wrist. It didn't look broken, which was fortunate, but it still did look like it needed treatment. Now it was Polka's chance to shine.
If Astrid was expecting Polka to start singing, she would have been mistaken. Polka, unlike Rapunzel, didn't need to sing to make her magic work. She held out her hand and gently touched Astrid's wrist, then waited a few moments. It was as if she was concentrating. On what she was concentrating had yet to be determined, but she was concentrating on something. Slowly, the area around Astrid's wrist seemed to begin giving off a faint green glow. Polka stayed silent the whole while. She wasn't certain of how Astrid would even react to her healing her. Polka was so used to the reaction from people being fear when she used her magic that she had almost been hesitant to even ask if she could help Astrid. But there she was, using her magic at last.
In all honesty, she wondered why she was helping. The way she had been received by the Viking girl hadn't exactly been warm. In fact, it had seemed to border on hostile in some aspects. But Polka was too kind to leave someone injured. Too kind to not offer her assistance. "Orange Glow." Polka murmured, almost as if she was sealing the deal. A bit of orange light seemed to bubble up from around the green light, and before long the glow was gone.
"Is... that any better?" Polka asked tentatively. She was half expecting the sort of response she would get from people around Tenuto. But she remembered she wasn't home anymore. Astrid and Hiccup had no idea of the history behind her powers. They didn't view her any differently than anyone else around Black Castle. Why should she have been afraid of how her two friends, as far as she was assuming, would react?

Astrid's eyes widened with the green glow but she made no attempt to withdraw or speak. Than as it faded and Polka was finished, Astrid investigated her arms. Good as new, no tears in the skin. "Wow... Much better, thanks Polka." The girl murmured sincerely. Astrid was also wondering as to how Polka didn't hold a grudge. She hadn't been the nicest in welcoming Polka, yet the blonde healed her arms. Maybe it was a light witch thing? If the other blonde was expecting an apology though... The poor thing would be disappointed, Astrid wasn't too keen on apologies.
"I guess you healing witches are all different." She nodded, remembering Rapunzel's hair method. "I wish had something that was that useful." Astrid said, her voice quiet. She wasn't known to really exhibit any wishes for herself, and even now it was an odd thing to admit. A thanks was normally one of her greater expressed emotion that she decided didn't show weakness. Her head turned to the red head seeming to still be rubbing his leg.
"How's that working out for you?" The girl teased, having shaken off the adrenaline and fear that the waterfall had brought her. The teen seemed to have blocked out all of the world again and was muttering and griping to himself. Still, it was amusing, especially after all that had just occurred. It felt like hours had past, when in truth it had taken all of 5-10 minutes to fall off a cliff and get pulled to safety. The mind had had a funny way of making the girl tired, first mentally, now physically. Her breath had steadied enough though and her head was no longer spinning with dizziness. Astrid turned her wrist over as well, rolling the joint. It felt much, much better. The only misgiving Astrid has was her leggings, which were now ripped.
Astrid now became more aware of her surroundings, the rushing river, roaring waterfall, the soft stir of the tree leaves. It all seemed so innocent... until you stepped off the edge of the waterfall.

Polka was more surprised that fear hadn't been the first reaction from the werewolf. It was something she had almost grown accustomed to as a result of trying to help people out, only to be met with the fear of the unknown. "You're welcome. It's the least I could do." Polka said at last. It was a wonder Polka wasn't one to charge for her healing. It was almost a fault, her niceness. Her kindness would have gotten her walked all over if she were anywhere else. Now that she thought about it, she really was almost walked all over pretty much everywhere she went. Did that bother her? Only a little. She just wanted to help people.
Polka really wasn't expecting an apology or anything of that nature from Astrid. While Polka was nice to a fault, Astrid was the opposite. Not one to admit her mistakes, at least from how Polka saw it. So she wouldn't demand anything of that nature from her. Her blue gaze shifted to Hiccup again when Astrid teased him. The poor redhead had been through so much... it was a wonder he was even alive at that point the way the universe toyed with him.
"Not... quite as well as I would like." Hiccup replied at length. He'd thought rubbing where the flesh met metal would have helped to bring the throbbing down. Instead, it seemed to have no effect at all. With a frustrated sort of sigh, Hiccup decided to give up his endeavor. "Well, guess I'll just have to put up with this incessant throbbing the whole way home. No big deal, really. Not like I wanted the pain to go away any time soon. Pain... love it." Hiccup remarked.
This response garnered a laugh from Polka. Even if he wasn't intending to, he had been funny right then. It must have been the sarcasm. How was it that he was so much funnier than she could ever be? "I'm sure you'll be all right, Hiccup. But if you want, I could take a look..."
"No, that's all right. I'll get used to it. Not like I have much choice." Hiccup said. He wasn't about to admit that it was driving him crazy. He refused to be the constant victim of the trio. Call it Viking stupidity, but he wanted to see how long he could endure what pain he was going through before calling it quits. "So... now what? Any ideas?" Hiccup asked.

Astrid joined in on the laughter, adding her own voice to the mix. Astrid did see the 'ol viking stubbornness though as Hiccup refused help. Astrid pushed herself up, hands on her hips, feet placed slightly apart as she looked at them. "Honestly I don't know... and I'm kind of afraid of what might happen next if I take you guys out into the forest." Astrid said with a joking smile, but a serious tone struck through her voice. If they'd gotten into a yelling match out of something stupid (which had been Astrid's fault, unless it wasn't a bad thing in the end), and had nearly fallen off a cliff. Next thing they knew they'd be falling through quick sand. It was still mid afternoon and Astrid selfishly didn't want the two to go back to the castle, leaving her to the afternoon. Mostly dozing. There was no chance in hell she'd catch anything, and she had so much to think about after the day's events she wouldn't pay enough attention. She was out of ideas though, whatever ideas that had tried forming in her brain had been wiped clean by the near scare of falling off a cliff. Though she was afraid to risk another venture into the unknown. "And after today's little exploration party down the river... that's enough exploring the unknown today. " Astrid reasoned allowed, walking a little ways off to the forest line.
It was a long way to the castle, and Astrid was unsure if Hiccup could make it. He'd have to eventually though. They could hike to the bottom of the waterfall... But Hiccup might just fall and get himself killed this time. It would also be harder for the teen to climb uphill and the blonde didn't think Hiccup would enjoy to be baby-ed. "Unless you two need me to take you home..." Astrid said emotionless. She didn't want to seem sad or eager if they decided against it. That would make her sound... lonely. "I mean, Hiccup you've already come close to death twice." Once with her and him fighting, once with the waterfall. Astrid mused to herself though on which one he might've considered more dangerous.
"Or want to risk another venture into the woods." Astrid continued.

(ooc: It's okay. I understand completely. I thought the post was fine, though. And yeah... I think now we can open it up to other forest dwellers. FOR ADVENTURE! )
"The way I see it, we don't really have to head back any time soon. At least... I don't think we do. I mean, how mad could Gothel get over us being gone?" Polka asked. She could hardly believe what she was saying. Since when did she live on the edge so much? Maybe being around two Vikings, one of whom had basically brushed with death twice in one day and probably many more times in his lifetime, was having a positive effect on her. Making her come out of her shell just a bit more. Or maybe Polka was imagining that being possible and just going along with the idea. Who really knew? "I've never been this far from the castle, anyway. I'd kind of like to see what else is out here... if that's okay." Polka said.
Although she was concerned over how far Hiccup could actually get with what he had been through, she did like the prospect of actually seeing what else lay in the forest. It was like the grand adventure she had wanted to go on, except without the prospect of helping others as much as she had wanted to. Besides... who knew how much more she would get to see before her life came to an end? If it did. She still didn't know if she was dealing with what she was afraid still lingered within her for being able to use magic. "Just to see what's out here." she said.
Hiccup, admittedly, was a bit surprised by Polka's suggestion to keep exploring. He had thought she would have wanted to head back. Not that he wanted to, of course. He just wasn't entirely certain of how long he could trudge on before his brief burst of Viking stubbornness wore out and he collapsed into a a little heap on the ground. That wouldn't be right then, though.
He forced himself to his feet, wincing slightly as he did, and nodded a little in agreement. "I actually wouldn't mind seeing what else is out here. The farthest I've gotten before today is that one spot where we hung out... and then that place where Snotlout decided 'Hey, let's see if I can rip off Hiccup's leg before a demon does it for me'. Just... don't blame me if I lag a little. You know... I'll just be walking this off." Hiccup said. He wasn't hinting at the fact that he seriously wasn't enjoying being in pain. No sir! Not at all!

Astrid was a little surprised at Polka. The shy girl wanted to go on? Fine by her, if at least one was willing and eager, who was she to say no? Rolling her eyes at Hiccup, Astrid brushed off her pants and skirt, and started walking. They really were in no man's land, at least she thought. She'd smelt no indication that the territory was claimed. Than again, she hadn't noticed a waterfall before her muzzle. Why not risk it? You have an injured, scrawny, teenage viking who can barely use his offensive/defensive magic and a shy witch who appears to have no offensive/defensive magic? Her thoughts answered in mock happiness. Aside from that minor fact... they should be safe...? She could fight, she just saved Hiccup and Polka seemed capable of healing if Hiccup somehow got hurt in the process of whatever the hell would happen. The blonde at least seemed eager. She had motivation to go on, she hadn't been far from the castle, who was Astrid to stand in the way of Polka's sight seeing?
"This isn't my territory, and I'm pretty sure it's no man's land. So as long as we're careful and pay attention, I don't think we'll fall of any more waterfalls, cliffs, or go into quicksand." The blonde confirmed, more to herself than the others. With that, the blonde followed the length of the river back, until the roaring of the waterfall died away. How had she missed that? Stupidity and competitiveness seemed to be two large factors. The river eventually thinned out, and Astrid made her way across, it was shallow, which was good. Her eyes watching Hiccup in case of mishaps. There were rocks on the bottom, and if he picked his way across carefully he could make it across without falling. If he didn't... there'd be a soggy Hiccup. Astrid did make her way across to the opposite bank, shaking off her boots when she reached grass. It seemed to be a canine thing she'd developed.
The blonde made her way into the cover of the forest, kicking away large objects that caught her vision and might lag the scrawny viking that was probably bringing up the rear. It was the least she could do. Sunlight found its way to the forest floor, shining in dappled patterns through the green leaves. At least there was some light in the normally dark forest. It was a very misleading image. Astrid's ears and eyes continued to listen and watch the forest's depths. The swift flash of vampires and werewolves were ready to be caught.
"Come on, I have no clue where we're going. But I'll find our way back... probably." Astrid joked, her smile radiating confidence as well as caution. Though it wasn't entirely a joke. She'd be able to follow the scent trail back (werewolves had the best noses) and the sound of running water, if they weren't screwed with, there wasn't unexpected rain, and if the wind decided to be nice.

Without much else in the means of choices, especially with two blondes who were convinced that they should go exploring further, Hiccup began to follow after Astrid. He could see Polka following suit, and she was moving a bit quicker than he was, so it was safe to say the trio was at least off to a good start. Never mind the fact that he was limping instead of hobbling by that point. He had to man up. Somewhere in the back of his mind was the insane idea that if he didn't get through this day without managing to tough out his pain then he never would be able to. It was almost as if his mind was getting back at his body for having such a brush with death by waterfall.
I'm going to get you for this, brain.
Hiccup had absolutely no idea of how he was going to actually accomplish getting back at his brain, but he intended to find some way. Maybe he could have someone get into his mind somehow and mess around with it. Or something. Hiccup shook his head a little as he came to the realization that his thoughts were beginning to sound rather idiotic. Not idiotic enough to keep him from hearing what Astrid had said, though. No man's land. That was enough to indicate to Hiccup that they were pretty much fair game as far as anyone in the area was concerned. "Great to know. I'll be sure to keep an eye out for anything suspicious. Wouldn't want us to end up surprised again." Hiccup said.
Whether or not Hiccup had been poking fun at the incident with the waterfall, Polka found herself amused by the statement. She really couldn't tell if he was being serious or not. The fact that he didn't look like much of a threat combined with the fact that she was literally no threat at all made for a very amusing image in her head as she passed Hiccup and began to catch up with Astrid's pace. "Would you like me to find you a stick, oh brave Sir Hiccup? So you can defend us properly?" Polka teased.
"Ha ha. Very funny, Lady Polka."
She knew they should have been taking their exploration a bit more seriously, but she couldn't pass up the opportunity to laugh at Hiccup's comeback. With that sort of snarky Hiccup tone it was just too funny! "I was just teasing, Hiccup. I'm sure there's nothing to worry about. So far the worse we've had to deal with has been that waterfall, and things seem rather quiet. I don't think anything bad is going to happen." she said. Optimistic thoughts at their best, she realized. Polka realized there still could have been anything in the woods. They needed to keep an eye out for anything.

Wilbur had been wandering around for quite awhile, wanting to a.) think about what a peaceful day this had been without the war and 2.) Get away from the nagging girls. Sheesh, what did a boy have to do to get a little peace and quiet without a bunch of older women hanging around. However, when he heard voices and footsteps he immedinately grew interested.
"Hiccup?" the raven haired wizard asked as he poked his head out. "What are you doing out here?" this was one of the many questions, however when seeing Polka and another girl together, well a sly smirk appeared on his face. "You Sly Dog!"

Astrid rolled her eyes at the two... but in a friendly way. Though Hiccup should have been looking for something suspicious... "Though, seriously you two, you'll have to be careful. If you fall in a pit, to hell if I'm getting you out." Astrid threatened, though it was an empty threat. On used in the attempt to keep the other two magic users from hurting themselves further. Astrid could take care of herself, she'd done it for this long, why not longer? "Though Hiccup I'm debating whether or not I should be loading you up with four leaf clovers and horseshoes. You can't be too careful!" The girl teased over her shoulder at the scrawny viking teen. While the other two poked fun at each other, Astrid paid more attention to the forest. She wasn't necessarily a loner by chose, she'd become accustomed to listening and watching. She hated surprises. It was evident that most weren't good, for example the waterfall, and all the surprises the forest had to offer. Be it werewolves, vampires, or random passerby's. Normally nothing good came of it. Astrid's very nature before and after the werewolf part depended on knowing what her enemy would do before it was done. Surprise was a good tactic as was a clear head on a battlefield.
In Berk, though, there was a surplus of dragon fighting vikings, so there was always someone to depend on. In the forest, as a lone wolf... not so much. Now that Astrid had two added to the party, that only brought on her more cautious nature. Things lurked in the forest, and with two magic users who weren't to adept in their skills, Astrid seemed to be the only one with knowledge of fighting skills. Unless they severely pissed off Hiccup and the teen happened to have his hand pointing at the opponent.
At Polka's words, Astrid gave a 'hahaha sure smile' nothing to worry about? Let those two enjoy their fun, ignorance was bliss. She'd stay alert, it was against her core to let her guard down... unless special circumstances were at hand. Those being either very angry or very happy. The latter only happening on, again, special occasions.
Astrid continued at the head of the party of three, leading the way through the forest she knew nothing of. Great plan. Footsteps. Great Odin's ghost, I swear to the gods if that is someone coming to attack us ALREADY I will tear his insides out and continue on my merry, damn way! Astrid's thoughts growled furiously.
"Hiccup? What are you doing out here? You Sly Dog!" Astrid turned on her heel, lunging a foot before this teen that knew Hiccup. That wasn't necessarily a good thing though. Mid leap, she'd become a wolf, hackles raised, lips curled back in rolls to her eyes. A malignant gleam in her eyes. It seemed one had to learn to look more ferocious, and though Astrid appeared to be the 'Bark is worse than her bite' dog, it seemed the two were equal. Her bark being a sufficient warning before the bite. Though, she swore to the gods if Hiccup did a 'heel dog' sort of act she'd push him over as well as this raven haired stranger.
The blonde hadn't registered the meaning of Wilbur's words though. She hadn't paid enough attention and processed the meaning with the tone. She was a large wolf, taller than normal wolves because of the part human, so she was a nice, intimidating size if she said so herself. "A friend of yours Hiccup?" The girl growled, eyes using their peripheral vision to look at the redhead. Astrid appeared to be over reacting. She probably was. Though in the dark forest with two nearly helpless teens, one could never be too careful. Though it would be highly satisfying if the raven haired teen was intimidated.

At first Polka hadn't registered that someone else was around. She'd been blissfully unaware of the fact that there might have been someone else there at all. Wilbur's voice shattered that bliss, and when she recognized it she stepped back as a look of surprise crossed her face. It appeared that she and Hiccup weren't the only students of Gothel to be out and about that day. She seemed to register what Wilbur's words had meant, too, as her cheeks burned a bit after a moment. "W-Wilbur! It's not like that at all!" Polka exclaimed. She was trying to defend the three of them in that moment, even if her blush seemed to indicate that her words weren't quite true. She still did care about Hiccup even if he didn't return the favor. "We were only spending time together." she said.
Astrid's question seemed to bring her out of her defensive mode, and so her body relaxed a little. Though the question had been directed at Hiccup, Wilbur was one of the guys she considered to be a friend. "This... this is Wilbur. He's another wizard that lives around the castle." Polka explained. She sent a look his way that seemed to be asking what he was doing there, but she didn't know if he would actually answer it.
This time, Hiccup seemed to catch on to what was going on. Wilbur was totally implying he was a ladies man! Hiccup's jaw hung open in a speechless stupor for a few moments before coming back up as he shook his head. It was just like Polka said. Not like that at all. "What? Can't a guy have a few friends that happen to be girls, Wilbur? And what are you doing out here, anyway?" Hiccup asked.

"What you think i would miss all the fun." Wilbur asked with a sad mock look of offense. "You hogging all the ladies to yourself. How rude." he gave Hiccup a smile before standing again. "and as for your other clearly ridiculous question, i would like to point out that there are about tons of angry ladies at that castle and i would prefer it if i kept my body intact for one day." He said brushing the dirt off his shirt. "Besides you know very well, i couldn't stay there without getting one of them angry."
