Sokka gave a small gulp. This was a new development. She genuinely sounded as if she were about to run him through with some sort of weapon. He took a shakey step back, not knowing what the other wizard might do.
----
Garrett raised an eyebrow. This was unexpected. He knew that there had been an animal there, but a prisoner? And he could've sworn that both of them had just been sitting down chatting away as if they were the best of relatives. And why was she so insistent that he leave? Something clicked in his head. Ah, the dog really was her brother. A werewolf? An unlucky occurence as Gothel had one of those endeavors to kill all of the other magical creatures, something he would not expect from a supposedly peaceful woman who wanted nothing more than to teach them all to use magic. "Nicknames? We have no need for nicknames..."
Then, an idea came to him. He was going to get her to admit that which was already made obvious to him. His shadow started to lengthen and stretch, but it went un-noticed. Until, it literally came off the ground and wrapped around the wolf who let out a small yelp. "Ah, but that's the thing, isn't it? I can't bloody sleep, so I might as well help you. After all, I need something to do."
He gave a small smirk and walked forward, the shadows reaching up around his staff and forming a very large blade on the end of it. "So, what's on the agenda? Torture? Maiming? Or flat out killing?"
-----
Sokka let out a canine whimper as he was lifted from the ground as the shadows kept him restrained and suspended a foot off the ground. He looked to Katara, fearfully.

Katara bit her lip. How could she stop him? The shadows caused her to bite her lip down harder to refrain from screaming or making some noise of fear. "A-Actually, all I really wanted to do was impress Mother Gothel. By doing it myself. Besides, he's got a pack. If we kill him, then they'll come looking for him. More work that way. If I, on the other hand, just beat on him a bit, send him back well injured, the others will know to stay away and that the castle is to be feared. Or maybe we can just send him back now, where he'll tell the pack that he's been in a near death experience with shadows. That'll make the rest of the pack think he's crazy and throw him as an outcast, leaving nature to do the job for us."
Katara couldn't believe what she was saying. Why couldn't she just say this was her brother who smuggled himself in? Why couldn't she just make this wizard swear himself in secrecy to not tell anyone else? Why couldn't Sokka actually have a pack coming after him? He was going to die from a shadow blade if Garrett didn't let her save him.

Sokka trembled in his bonds, shutting his eyes as the blade was lifted above him.
---
Garrett looked at her, sighed, and shook his head. SHe was a tough one to crack no matter how much he tried. She was squirming, but not revealing anything verbally. His sightless eyes locked onto her. He sighed. "You don't have to keep the bloody charade up. I already guessed he's your brother. You really shouldn't say that you were using his name flat out as an excuse. I've been around here long enough to know that you're one of those girls who loves her family more than the world itself. And, I suggest you work on your lying. Even I could tell and I'm blind. Well, most of the time anyway."
He waved a hand and the shadows dispersed, the wolf falling to the ground. "By the way, if he comes by to see you, he should bloody well be in his human form."

It looked like Katara had been figured out. Once Sokka fell to the ground, she clenched her fists and winced just watching her brother fall down. Katara only nodded at Garrett, heart pounding. What was he going to do if he was going to let her brother live? Tell Gothel? Gothel wasn't someone that Katara wanted to bother about a matter like this. Ever. She usually seemed like such a fairly nice lady. What if she took away her brother? Killed him? Thoughts swarmed around her head.
She'd just have to hope that Garrett would keep his mouth quiet about Sokka. She wanted to check on her brother, see if he was OK, but what if Garrett would do something if she tried to see if he was injured? It wasn't a horrific fall from a cliff, but not being used to his new body might have injured him badly somehow.

Sokka hit the ground and the breath was knocked out of him. He got back up, shakily as he tried to draw in breath. He simply scooted over closer to his sister. Fear now gone, he was just trying to comfort her. He butted her knee with his head.
---
Garrett snapped a finger and the shadows around him rose and formed into a small stool which he sat upon. He leaned forward and let the shadows take hold of his staff, having it suspend in the air. He leaned forward, placing his elbows on his knees. "Now, what to do with you I wonder? I'm guessing that we don't want to tell Gothel of this, don't we?"

Katara placed a hand on Sokka's head, stroking gently to comfort both him and herself. Her stomach churned as she looked at Garrett. "No, we don't want to tell her. At all." Katara said quickly, voice quavering. This spelled trouble all over it. What was Garrett going to do? Yell at her? Offer a horrid deal? Kill her instead of Sokka? That wasn't great, but at least Sokka could live on if she were murdered by Garrett at that very moment.
Katara didn't look into why he asked it. If she did, the results going through her head were horrendous. Best to keep her mouth shut as much as possible.

Garrett felt a twinge in his heart. This had gone on a little further than he expected and the girl was almost on the brink of a heart attack. He sighed and shook his head. "Look, you may barely know me, but I certainly know you. The new water witch, am I correct? I know how hard it is to lose someone close to yourself and how it can affect you. I won't tell anyone about what I've seen here tonight."
He leaned forward and motioned her closer. "On one condition"

Relief flooded like a river. He wasn't going to tell anyone what happened. Katara and Sokka were both safe another day. A smile that appeared on her face faded just as quickly as it came from what he said next, however. On one condition. No. Oh no. There was a catch. Something that probably wasn't any good. What was Katara going to have to do now?
"One condition? What condition?" Katara asked, brows furrowed as she awaited the answer. Her free hand began to play with her braided hair nervously. What did he want from her to keep the siblings safe? What could it possibly be that hindered her safety?

Garrett stared ahead with his sightless eyes. Although they weren't used, you felt as if he stared right through your soul. His brown hair hung forward as he spoke. "The only condition is a favor that you will give later on. I don't know when, so don't bother asking."

The feeling that Katara got when Garrett stared at her with those sightless eyes was an uneasy one. Even though he couldn't see, she felt like they were piercing through her. She had to shake away the feeling to actually hear what he was saying. What he said had confused her. He didn't know what the condition was? Well, it was a favor, but that was really all she knew. Her eyebrows furrowed as she looked at him. He said not to bother asking, so she didn't bother asking.
"Well, alright then. Whatever it is, I'll do it. For Sokka." she replied at last, sky blue eyes staring at Garrett with anxiety. Was that really it? Or was he about to say more?

Garrett simply smirked. Now, he had something to tie her down to him. This would prove to be very satisfactory later on. He stood up and raised his hand, shadows bursting from it like a canon and blasted into the gates, forcing them open. "There, now he can leave in peace. And don't worry. I keep my word and only use this as one favor."
--
Sokka looked at Katara, then slowly turned back to his human form. He stared at Garrett and spoke. "Thank you."
He turned to his sister and looked to her in the eye. He realized that she had gotten taller. He frowned, knowing full well that she could overpass him in height if he stopped growing. Curse puberty and its power over the human body. "Katara. I want you to stay here and make sure that you keep practicing, getting stronger. I want you to be able to protect yourself if I can't be around. I know of this girl, she has an opening in her pack. If you want me to survive, I'll go to them. Promise me that you'll stay here."

"I promise I'll stay here, Sokka. But promise me, whether or not you join the pack, to just survive. Got it?" Katara replied. Everything was seeming to spiral downhill. It was as if those moments of peace with her brother had vanished in a heartbeat. Everything was going wrong. They should be at home. Together, not seperated by race. They were the same blood, blood running thicker than water. Now they were opposites. She was living in a castle where she could practice her powers and easily find meals. He, on the other hand, was a werewolf who had little chance of survival. Apparently, it wasn't as easy to practice his powers, not to mention food.
Katara raised a hand to wipe her eyeball forming a few tears. Finally, she found her brother, only to have him taken away from her once again. How cruel fate could be sometimes.

Sokka butted her chest with his head, then back away. "I promise."
He then took off, not wanting her to see his own tears. He had to remain strong, just for her. If she saw him crying, it would probably make her even more emotional. This wasn't going how he planned, but he had to leave.
---
Garrett took a step forward and laid his hand on the witch's shoulders. He spoke in a gruff tone. "C'mon, we need to get you back inside. It's too cold to be out here all night."
